The weed shop across the street is moving to this location soon. I snapped a shot through the window yesterday. The shop next door looks like it's the HQ for a small reno contractor.

https://www.jjlv.ca/ Link to business website. It's nice to see some businesses coming to this block. It was looking bleak a year ago.

fisgard market in chinatown is having new owners on June 1. it doesn't say it's closing down or anything so i guess it'll just have new management now but i wonder if they feel they won't be able to compete with H Mart when it comes soon..they ran that store for nearly 30 years

I think all the East Asian markets in town are probably bracing for impact. Sooner or later we were gonna get an H-Mary or T&T…

Pickleball is coming to your local mall, replacing shuttered Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Navy, and Saks Off 5th stores.

It may seem like a strange strategy, but the match offers benefits to both mall owners and pickleball players.

Malls need new tenants to fill vacant spaces and draw customers beyond their traditional department store anchors and clothing stores.

Consumers are craving fun, social experiences after years of limited gatherings during the pandemic, and they have shifted their spending from goods to experiences like theaters, arcades and amusement parks.

^ I know of a group that has looked at something similar for Victoria but hard to make the economics work in this market at least.

Word on the street is the 7-11 at Yates and Quadra is closed. Signage gone and windows boarded up.
Predictive text and a tiny keyboard are not my friends!

Ya somebody on Facebook says the same. Even washing down the sidewalk didn’t save it.

It is what people voted for or in many cases did not bother to vote against.

That 7-11 has been there since the 80's, at least.

That one, the one at Douglas and Hillside and the one at Shelbourne and Cedar Hill I think all arrived in the early 80's.

Here’s some interesting history:

In 1928, a manager named Jenna Lira brought a totem pole as a souvenir from Alaska and placed it in front of her store. The pole served as a marketing tool for the company, as it attracted a great deal of attention. Soon, executives added totem poles in front of every store and eventually adopted an Alaska Native-inspired theme for their stores. Later on, the stores began operating under the name "Tote'm Stores". In the same year, the company began constructing filling stations in some of its Dallas locations as an experiment.

toysrus is moving to Uptown. I guess it's good news the toy store wasn't leaving victoria and uptown is a good location but they need to fix their stupid elevators problem cause it's turning away customers. even their escalators break a lot too but apparently they can't find the parts to fix it
