Even a fake grass Langford style median would have been an improvement, or no median at all, given it just needlessly increases the pedestrian crossing.

I am still hopeful for the re-birth of the "5 corners" roundabout as a focal point for the unofficial north entrance to downtown.
Complete with central fountain!

From your lips to wherever, Nparker. Several strategic roundabouts in this city would make for a much more dynamic and interesting street scene, and would move traffic much more efficiently. If only...

I was first in line on Pandora at Store this morning. I nearly ripped from the starting line when after what seemed like a crazy long red light the green bicycle light illuminated while the light remained red for vehicles.
Holy moly it's a mess down there. And we were promised a streamlined, more customer friendly experience by way of enhancing the urban realm and the street network near the bridge. So much for that.

The Ship's Point proposal says it all, "cars are to be tolerated but not prioritized".

This whole east side currently looks like a vast flat wasteland.
Translation: the view has been "opened up".

Well at least it won't be crowded, since most pedestrians and cyclists also use cars.

...The Dynamic Beast was supposed to arrive in Victoria today to remove the remaining steel, but it's been delayed...[it] is now going to come back on Friday June 8, it might make it on the 7th depending on its workload, it’s a very popular piece of equipment and we have to get in a lineup to get a hold of it,” Huggett said...

I thought we already were in a line-up?
Somebody must have jumped in front of us.

But we are willing to give up our place in line to possible save money?
Our bridge foreman is the highest-paid CoV employee in City history. I’m sure we are well past the point of trying to save money.

The booth looks to be in much better condition from the other side, i.e. the side that painters could access without leaving the walkway.
They should fix it up and make it an exhibit in the museum! Replace the windows with video monitors inside and make it an "Old JSB simulator" so tourists can snap pictures of their kids "raising the bridge".

I thought they were leaving the old abutments to protect the new pier, instead of going so that they are down (to or no, do ?) elevation.
Perhaps they meant do-do.
Huggett said. “On the west side we’ve been digging down getting ready to create that park on the west side.
They’ll be constructing a concrete wall in there, and they’ll be chipping down the old abutments so that they're down almost do elevation.”
