The final numbers on the Pettersson contract were announced this morning by the Canucks - eight years, $92.8 million or an average annual hit of $11.6 million puting him just slightly above Erik Karlsson of Pittsburgh and roughly at the same pay grade as Auston Matthews of the TML.....

Matthews go over 13m next year. I think this is a fair deal for both Petey and the Canucks.

Agreed he's got the talent but I do wonder sometimes about the drive and the will as he has a tendency to disappear for stretches. That said he is highly skilled and produces and Vancovuer is certainly better with than without him.

Quite the arms race going on especially in the western conference with Vegas, Colorado and Edmonton all making major moves on the trade front prior to the deadline on Friday:

If Edmonton doesn't flip a forward for defense, they won't go far. They have excess forwards now though.

Rumours about Vancouver flipping Lindholm for Guentzel in a three way trade with Boston and Pittsburgh. Interesting if they pull that off.

Tonight was supposed to be another night at PPG Paints Arena to celebrate Jaromir Jagr, but that celebration will be put on hold.

The Penguins announced this morning that fans in attendance will not be able to get a Jagr bobblehead because the shipment carrying the bobbleheads was stolen after arriving in California.

As a result, they are not in Pittsburgh and cannot be distributed at the game.

"We were shocked to be a victim of cargo theft, and we are working closely with local and federal authorities on the investigation," said Penguins President of Business Operations Kevin Acklin. "While this unfortunate incident adds to the legend of Jaromir Jagr, who will be in attendance as our guest at tonight's game, we look forward to resolving this theft and delivering the prized Jagr bobbleheads to their rightful homes, with our fans."

Wonder how this played out.  Good bet, or crazy risk?

'I'm not so passionate about it': Winner of multimillion-dollar Gretzky card case says he's changed his mind

Buyer says he wants to find 'better home' for cards, floats Wayne Gretzky, Drake and 'true soulmate'

The man who bought a highly sought-after, multimillion-dollar case of hockey cards now says he doesn't want them anymore.

CBC confirmed that Ontario-based real estate agent Jack Arshawsky won the auction for a case containing thousands of unopened 1979-1980 O-Pee-Chee brand hockey cards — the set that contains Wayne Gretzky's rookie card — for $3.72 million US.

However, Arshawsky says he has not paid the full amount for the cards yet, so they remain in the auction house's "vault."

________________________________

In the last stretch of the bidding action there were about 15 unique bidders, according to the auction house. It then whittled down to two candidates, who cranked the final price to $3.72 million US, with Arshawsky winning. He said he has paid $3 million, leaving $720,000 remaining unpaid.

This is the right choice.  Bars, restaurants, recreation, cultural or neighbourhood centres can do it if they want.

Especially if Nashville knocks Vancouver out in the first round which they are more than capable of doing. Given Demko being out clearly longer term and Elias Pettersson seemingly having forgotten how to play hockey the Canucks are in some peril IMO.

Remember while they finished much higher in the standings the Canucks have perilously little playoff experience on their roster compared to the Nashville guys - who have LOTS. If Vancouver loses the next game then winning game 4 is imperative because if they go down 3-1 - given their dearth of experience, relying on the backup goalie and with stars like Pettersson not being a factor at all - they're toast IMO.

Yep. Both teams are very good. With a series of 5 remaining and Nashville now has home ice advantage it’s anyone’s series to win.
There’s a photo of Demko spread eagle in game 1 that might be the injury. Stretch too far you may tear something.

1-0 Vcr at the end of the first period. Encouraging start, they played well so we hope now they continue to do so. Miller scored and Quinn and Pettersson assisted on the goal which is good, shows the latter is involved. They need their best players as they say to be their best players and that happened in the first period.

2-0 nuckleheads with eight minutes remaining....they're playing well. Very well in fact. DeSmith has been a brick wall in net thus far.
