You would think that the posties would be hurting enough to take any settlement before too long.

In typical government fashion, they have waited till they felt this would most benefit them politically.
FTFY.

Have they actually been ordered back to work or is there an intermediate step first?
Rather late for most of Christmas. Hope the mailman is not expecting a Christmas envelope from me.

Ya, too late for Christmas. They should have just done this right away as there was zero leverage doing a strike like this. It only hurt small business at a critical time. Which they seem to love. The union should have come up with another way to negotiate. This just deprived their members of income at a critical time. They should have put a stop to all government related mail or something. IDK, but this was a lose lose move.

And we have crippling tariffs to look forward to starting next year.

Between Canada Post management seemingly unable to grasp that the strike is over and getting Christmas mail underway immediately is important to Canadians, the union failing to understand that delivering mail isn't a route to riches, and the entire operation over a billion dollars in debt - it's obvious that the entire organization is completely broken from top to bottom.

3 days back at work and no mail, flyers, anything for me and I don't think for my strata neighbours either.

Email. Fax. FedEx. Amazon. UPS.
Between these services you can get a message or item sent to anywhere in Canada. Without Canada post.
If you live somewhere that is expensive to get to; you should have to pay more for a hard copy letter or parcel to get to you.
90% of our population lives in cities where Canada post is simply not needed. Kill the postal service! It won’t be hard to adapt to life without it
