Joe Hicketts will become the first ever Victoria Royal to get into an NHL regular season game, as he's been called up from Grand Rapids by the Detroit Red Wings.

Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill says he is going to play Hicketts against the New Jersey Devils tomorrow.

Ya good for him!

Of course, the 1980-81 Cougars had 15 guys go on to play in the NHL. Crazy eh, just from that one year.

Royals have been around 5 years and this is a first.

The Royals have only two regular season games left. They'll be in the playoffs, and it looks like they'll be playing Vancouver in the first round.

Pretty lame effort by the Royals aside from Phillips and Hannoun. But, their top two centres are injured and aren't playing. I can't see them beating the Giants two games in a row at this point.

Looks like 300-400 tickets left for tonight. Mostly 104 (no alcohol).

The Victoria Royals are off to a 7-0 start, and are ranked fourth in the CHL in what was expected to be a rebuilding year. They're probably not as good as their record, but they're definitely better than anticipated.

They play the Vancouver Giants, whom they beat 3-2 in overtime last night, today at 3:05. It's "skate with the players" after the game today, and also Marty the Marnot's birthday (a "holiday" which floats around on the calendar more freely than Easter).

The WHL's Kootenay Ice (Cranbrook) will be moving to Winnipeg once this season is over.

Great opportunity for the BCHL to jump from 17 to 18 teams and balance out their divisions a bit. Would be a much more reasonable league to operate in that community.

Too bad though...some great teams over the years in Cranbrook. Made the playoffs in each of their seasons except the last four (including the current season). Three trips to the Memorial Cup. Not a bad resume.

Folks keep showing up at the games despite prices rising every year.

Cheaper than a Vancouver Giants ticket ($25.25)

i don't know.  i might be interested if it was $10 or $13.  when did the price diverge so far from the price of a movie ticket?

It was never really those prices. You always had to add a $3 service fee and a $1 ticket fee.

Cheaper than the unproven Pacific FC as well (based on group pricing rates).

Toss in your BCAA discount of 25% and I find Royals games to be a pretty solid deal.

Maybe they aren't targeting the cheapskate crowd?
