Pointing out Google just takes your phone data to get their traffic data not have millions of people on their phone updating info while driving makes me a public servant that can't fathom people volunteering? I don't recall ever saying once people wouldn't do it (also I'm a student not a public servant) lol

you underestimate the power of the people! and you think too small. google maps uses volunteers to get real-time traffic info in over 300,000 cities today. think outside the box! 8000 stops big deal.
Not really. Google polls people's phones without them doing anything. Google does do some work by volunteers for their maps, but that is a small amount of the actual work needed to build maps.
And I've managed volunteers professionally and personally for nearly a decade. There are things volunteers are really good at, QA doesn't tend to be it.

Since I know there's a few people connected to BC Transit here, does anyone know when they plan on giving detour information on the Johnson Street Bridge today? Heading out of downtown I assume they'll just use Bay but towards Downtown will 14, 15, 24, 25 be going all the way to Burnside or is there another route I'm unaware of?

I don't think they know what's going on yet. VicPD has to issue a statement on how they plan to respond to the protest.

The protesters say they will let buses through.
but how do the buses reach the bridge if they aren't letting anyone else through?

I guess cops might redirect regular traffic away from Johnson/Wharf. Could be tough.

Transit buses are large enough to drive over the protestors.

I saw some footage from Edmonton this morning. The buses weren't going anywhere, they were just stuck with all the other traffic and had no route through.

i think if there are 100+ people on the bridge police would be foolish to try to let buses through. police might as well block yates and pandora at douglas allow nobody past douglas.

Your right to a peaceful protest can't trump my right to carry out my business.
Have the police keep the protesters off the bridge and redirect them to BHP or the legislature grounds.

Or redirect them to all that empty space adjacent to the bridge.

at the very least perhaps police can do as they did in halifax. at least there police simply did not let them on the bridge. in edmonton the protestors beat the police there so might not have been able to stop them. in vancouver the police cleared the way to allow them right onto the bridge.

^ok, seeing Vancouver's response makes me think VicPD will probably take a similar approach.

What sort of business do you do on the bridge? Did I miss a storefront built on the side of the bridge?
