They seem to be running the Cowichan Commuter buses (slightly smaller, some seats face backwards like lower floor of double-decker, no NextRide) today. Was just on one for 30 and passed a 50 near Uptown also running them. Guess if they can get them back downtown in time to start their scheduled trips that works to get 6 extra buses.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense.

Them's the rules!

With the population growth in the west shore the rules makes little sense anymore.

Don't the Cowichan commuter buses have bathrooms onboard?  Those are the buses that run the 66/99, right?

yeah that's what 66/99 run. Admittedly I didn't really look at the back but I didn't see any bathrooms.

I've never ridden them, but some of the 66/99 buses that I've seen pass by have a small booth at the very back on the driver's side and without the window that would normally be there.  The booth area has vents to the exterior driver's side of the bus, so I'd just assumed they were a ghetto bus toilet ala Greyhound (i.e. no running water, just sanitizer) given that it's a 90-minute route in ideal traffic.

that's what i was thinking.. it might be time to shake up those numbers... maybe if langford was guaranteed a seat at the table they might see more transit needs for the ever growing population being met.. i don't see why Victoria proper needs two seats.. i get they are a central hub (most buses run through the core, transit's home offices are within victoria boarders) 1 seat should be enough

those vents are not indicative of a bathroom.  more like electrical or mechanical equipment that gets heated.  perhaps heating or cooling systems.  the engine exhaust is also right there.

The assumption seems to be that only the highway will be blocked. The protests blocked both bridges in downtown Victoria. If they block West Saanich, etc then real traffic chaos will ensue.

If a group of 50 Stelly's students attempted to block the highway I suspect they'd be moved on in short order.

So why exactly are we seeing all of these cancellations after all of these new buses? Is it a shortage of drivers?

there only seems to be 5 of them currently (IDs 1156, 1157, 1158, 1159, 1160) and they were running (according to Nextride) around 7-8AM when most these cancellations took place. Although we do seem to have more borrowed buses as well. I thought they were using the Cowichen commuter buses but I saw one of those "to garage" at 7PM a couple nights ago when it should have long left so I assume we've borrowed some Cowichen buses although no idea how many.

Pay for it and they may not come.

...the city will continue to pay for its entire youth population to ride the bus despite actual ridership...

Why let something like facts get in the way of ideology/social engineering?

I noticed, in the paper today, a request for opinion on Transport Canada’s intent to bar vessels with a length of less than 20 metres from accessing the International Marina. I thought smaller boats were already prohibited. Does this constitute a change in the rules? Has some group been complaining?

So only the larger BC Transit buses would be allowed to access the marina?

Sorry, I thought this was a general infrastructure thread.

There is a specific thread for the International Marina.
