A seven-year-old girl reported missing with her father on Jan. 23 has been located and is back with her mother. Police said Violet Bennett was dropped off at the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment on Wednesday night by someone unknown to the girl.
“This investigation came to a positive ending, thanks to the work of our partnering police agencies, the media and ultimately the public who provided tips in hope to safely locate Violet,” RCMP said in a statement.
RCMP said no further details about the investigation would be released out of respect for the family’s privacy.
Her father, Jesse Bennett, is still wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for abduction in contravention of a custody order.
On Jan. 20, a judge established a shared custody agreement, placing Violet in Hall’s care on weekdays and with Bennett on weekends.
Bennett did not comply with the order.

Is this the same missing 16-year-old female named above or someone else? It's so odd that once located, identities are shielded.

Before we did not know she had travelled to Nanaimo. People were looking for her in Victoria. Why didn’t Sidney RCMP add that detail? Or mention she flew in from Sask? Those are important details.

Mounties say a body was recovered from the waters off Nanaimo, B.C., near Protection Island on Tuesday.
The body was discovered in a channel between Protection Island and Saysutshun Island, according to RCMP.
Police say the body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition, and that it appears to have been in the water for an extended period of time.
On April 11, Mounties received a report of a couple fighting aboard a vessel anchored between Protection Island and Saysutshun Island.
As of Wednesday, there's no indication the body discovered Tuesday is related to the missing man, police say. However, Mounties have contacted the man's family to advise them of the discovery.
