that's where all the cops and cilvilians park their cars.  it has 24/7 live security plus cameras.  safer than parking lots or parkades downtown.  it's had cameras for over 30 years.

closed circuit direct to the police station and monitored live 24/7.  by the police.

That is an old picture.  I'm sure those lamp standards have been replaced and I'm not so sure there are cameras up there anymore.

Vancouver Island baseball teams cancel 2021 season

https://vancouverisl...eason-1.5387436

Two West Coast League baseball teams on Vancouver Island have cancelled their entire seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Victoria HarbourCats and Nanaimo NightOwls announced the cancellation of their 2021 seasons Wednesday.

It's the second season the HarbourCats have cancelled due to the pandemic, while this year was meant to mark the NightOwls’ inaugural season in the WCL at Serauxmen Stadium in Nanaimo.

Team owners say the decision to cancel the season was made "with great sadness" after consultations with teams in Kamloops, Kelowna and Edmonton.

Ten U.S.-based WCL teams will still play a modified season with some fan capacity allowed at games.

Four days later on May 31, baseball’s Victoria HarbourCats host the Port Angeles Lefties at Royal Athletic Park. Their up-Island rivals in Nanaimo finally get to host their first West Coast League game at Serauxmen Stadium on June 3.

It’s usually a whirlwind when players head for summer baseball after their university and college seasons end.

Liam Rocha from Cal Baptist flew out of John Wayne Airport in Orange County on Monday night, and will say quick hellos to his new Victoria teammates this afternoon, before possibly being on the HarbourCats’ mound tonight in the season opener, in his first time outside the United States.

The West Coast League game, against the Port Angeles Lefties, will be the first at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park since 2019. The U.S.-based WCL teams played last year but the pandemic wiped out both the 2020 and 2021 seasons for the Victoria club.

Quite the impressive fireworks display after the Harbourcats game tonight. I've missed these over the past 2 years.

Additional fireworks nights will be:

- Thursday, June 30, CANADA DAY FIREWORKS!
- Monday, August 1, BC DAY FIREWORKS

Meanwhile, former Seahawks Super Bowl-winning receiver Tate made his WCL debut in centre field for the Port Angeles Lefties against the Bend Elks with two hits, an RBI and a run scored in his first-four at-bats in the late-finishing game.

“As some might know, I was drafted twice in baseball. As a child, my first love was baseball, so I’m excited about the opportunity to compete against some of the best young players,” Tate, 33, said in a statement.

Tonight:

The Black Bears and HarbourCats will wrap up their three-game series on Thursday night with a 6:35 pm start. That game will be followed by the HarbourCats annual Canada Day fireworks display, with fireworks starting as soon as it is dark enough following game completion. Tickets are still available for that game and can be purchased on-line at http://harbourcats.com/tickets.

Greater Victoria residents took to the many beaches, farmers markets, and parks available in the region Saturday, looking to make the best of the sunny weather.

The start of the long weekend saw places like Hamsterly Beach in Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park and Island View Beach bustling with activity. People of all ages took advantage of the cool water and soft sand to enjoy some swimming and Frisbee, or let their furry friends splash in the water chasing after a good old stick.

THE HARBOURCATS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!

Victoria HarbourCats 2023 playoff tickets will go on sale TUESDAY AUGUST 1st at 10:00 AM for any possible games at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.

Tickets will be available on-line at http://harbourcats.com/tickets, or at the office at 101-1814 Vancouver Street. You can also call 778-265-0327. Season Ticket holders and partial season ticket holders will receive free playoff tickets and these will be sent via e-mail (see note below).

Heading into Tuesday's final SIX games, starting with the Island rivalry with Nanaimo Tuesday night, while the HarbourCats have clinched a playoff spot, the final seeding is not yet determined and there is still a chance for the 'Cats to win the second half North Division title and clinch home field in the first round.

Whatever transpires, the first possible playoff game in VICTORIA will be EITHER Tuesday, August 8th at 6:35 PM OR Wednesday, August 9th at 6:35 pm.   If that first game is WEDNESDAY, there could be a possible second home game on THURSDAY, August 10th at 6:35 PM (this would be game three of the best of three series).

If the first home game is TUESDAY, Playoff Game 2 would then be Saturday, August 12th at 6:35 PM - the North Division Final - assuming we win the first round and

retain home field advantage.   And if successful there, there is a possibility we would host the WCL Championship Game on Monday August 14th at 6:35pm.

It is tickets for those first two possible home games that are now on-sale on-line at https://harbourcats.com/tickets, or at the HarbourCats offices at 101-1814 Vancouver St.  Fans purchasing tickets for this first game (PLAYOFF GAME 1) should ensure they are available on both of these potential dates (August 8th and 9th).

Is the Nanaimo team not a spin-off of the Victoria team?
