John Travolta maybe?
John needs an airstrip attached to his house. He’s not going to schlep from Oak Bay to YYJ every time he needs to flash up the jet.

Any reason that Prince George isn’t a city of 500,000 people? Better climate than Edmonton.
Folks east of the Rockies, and who contemplate such things, will tell you that although the climate in Edmonton is colder, the weather in Edmonton is actually better - in that along with that bitter cold comes a massive increase in available sunshine over any city west of the Rockies.
Of course along with that sunshine comes brutal cold, as well as brutal snow - but that really only seems to be of major concern to those of us who were born, and/or spent the majority of our lives west of the Rockies - Edmontonians seem to take their brutal weather in stride, almost as a trade off for the sunshine.
Of course my argument begins to majorly break down when you contemplate Fort St. John, which duplicates Edmonton's weather, is on a large prairie, and has the same latitude (AND is east of the Rockies), but only has a population of around 20,000 people compared to Edmonton's one million people.
Personally, I've never understood why people in Edmonton choose to live there, so I'm obviously missing something.

I have lots of family in that part of Alberta, in Edmonton, etc., and lived there Jan to Apr once upon a time for a university coop. Winter in Edmonton ...was crazy, for a Victoria kid.
But I really liked the city and the people. It's got a very down-to-business vibe, an energy that you feel. Calgary even more so, from what I gather from people who live there.

Edmonton does have an abundance of amazing parks, and the South Saskatchewan River basically flows right through the city and right beside downtown. You're also living on the prairie, which has its own appeal and geographic uniqueness.
I can see the appeal if it's where you grew up and where your family lives.
I've always been there in winter, and my vision of the city is very likely heavily skewed to me being freezing cold, my car not starting, and my not really knowing the city layout at all.
Calgary on the other hand, is a city I could live in without any problem at all. It's one of the most vibrant places I've ever spent time in.
I lived in Banff for a couple of years while going to the Banff Centre, and visited Calgary weekly.
It was back in the halcyon days of Electric Avenue (17th Ave, also the "Red Mile") where some 60,000 people would head to party after a Calgary Flames home game, with the nightlife scene some of the best in Canada at the time.
But a little shack on Mount Royal somewhere, with the Rockies and wide open prairie at your back door would be pretty good living.

I visited Prince George last fall. I quite liked it. The downtown was -very- clean. The open expanse of space was neat, and then as I drove south towards Valemount some beautiful country emerged.

I have friends that lived in Cold Lake Alberta for many years, they were a very successful couple and owned many businesses. When they retired and sold everything they moved to Edmonton. I couldn't believe it, out of all the places they could have moved, they picked Edmonton.
I have been to Edmonton many times and I can't say anything good about it. If the provincial government left, there would be nothing there. Coincidentally I am going to be in Edmonton on Sunday, only for a few hours and not by real choice.
Calgary OTOH I really like, I could easily move there.

Calgary signs the deals, Edmonton does the work. People either like it or hate it, but there is another life to Edmonton for the wealthy. I caught a glimpse of that and couldn’t believe how much wealth was in that city and how people with wealth lived.

Mike, and now it is back to the city of dog kennel condos. I just think our young folks deserve better.
