Because they exist in silos and seek the comfort of echo chambers. It’s human nature. And scientists are just human, with ideas that may be based on wrong assumptions and research that is on the wrong path.

First and foremost, the public has been conditioned to accept theories as fact. Scientists don’t like to emphasize their understanding of the world is predominantly based on theories.
