Paramedic Crisis: ‘You will get some sort of mental health injury, it’s just a matter of time’
May 26, 2021
Paramedic speaks out about an alarming number of mental health injuries, which have increased during COVID. Tess van Straaten reports.
Responding to accident scenes, critical injuries, and fatalities can take a big toll on a paramedic and the call-takers and dispatchers on the other end of the line.
“In this occupation, you will get an injury,” says Warren Leeder, a paramedic and the mental health and wellness coordinator for the union. “You will get some sort of mental health injury — it’s just a matter of time.”
But added pressure from staffing shortages and the COVID-19 pandemic is making it even worse.

Wait... with the lockdown, aren’t there fewer people out and about getting hurt? Fewer car accidents, playground accidents, etc?Paramedic Crisis: ‘You will get some sort of mental health injury, it’s just a matter of time’

Btw, wasn't a Windsor Plywood destroyed on Quadra Street some years ago?

He said Windsor’s number-one focus right now is to look after their professional customers.
“We have 55 families that rely on us for payment directly, but we have probably about 700 professionals that are relying on us to put bread on the table, so that’s our focus right now.”
Marr said they will get up and running as best they can at their Beddis Road site.

Salt spring has a reputation I think for being sleepy and quiet, but the construction industry here is absolutely booming.
Now the most populated chunk of the island is dealing with the chemicals in the environment, large paint shop, adhesives, plastics, etc etc. Some local business didn’t even open, the schools are all keeping kids in and windows closed, and the water system (mine at home) is on a boil water advisory due to the fire consuming so much of the water in the Maxwell lake system. They need to refill and pressurize the system then test.
Windsor is a cornerstone of the community here, always the first to sponsor, donate and support the local community. Everyone will rally behind the owners and the staff, and we are all hoping Oscar the cat made it out.
This was a weird building, of course, basically a cinder block build with a metal roof.
There has always been talk of them taking the old Slegg building in the meantime, but that’s being gutted to turn into a Fields.
Bad day for everyone here.
Matt.

Thetis Lake will see more bylaw enforcement this summer in effort to reduce 911 calls
June 2, 2021
Thetis Lake is going to be patrolled full-time by emergency officials to try and make it safer, with the goal of fewer 911 calls.
They also hope it will encourage people to think twice about making reckless decisions, like cliff jumping.

Cat was found safe and sound, just spooked, thankfully. The main building is totally destroyed, but the outbuildings and most of the lumber, concrete, door shop, etc all are fine. They are already back up and running on paper out of portable buildings, trade only for now as there are approx. 1200 jobs directly tied to their operation!VIDEO: Fire destroys Salt Spring Island’s Windsor Plywood

Amazing community support for them.
Matt.
I got my cats mixed up. Windsor’s cat is Cedar, the other cat is from the Salt Spring Inn. My bad.
