Not sure any "kayaks" were involved.
For the next three weeks — and possibly longer — Ian Graeme and Janice Mason will be working together in a double kayak, paddling the coastline of British Columbia to Ketchikan, Alaska.
They will face challenges in endurance and strength, and the forces of nature that will bring big waves, tricky currents and, possibly, huge storms.
But the Victoria couple is up for it.
In fact, Graeme, 61, and Mason, 62, are competing in the Race2Alaska — billed the longest human or wind-powered race in North America — for the fifth and fourth time, respectively, and are relishing the challenge of paddling the 1,207 kilometres from Port Townsend, Washington to the southern coast of Alaska.

TIL that section of road in BHP is called Camas Circle.
Weird that "Circle Dr" doesn't continue around the circle, only half way.
Shouldn't they both be "Semi-Circle"?

Unattended BBQ?
Unlikely at 4:45AM. Most likely an improperly discarded cigarette in a planter.

Just came across some BC ambulance callout stats here. http://www.bcehs.ca/...ta/call-volumes
I’m 2021 there was a significant jump in ambulance calls, a 5% increase over 2020. Wonder why.

British Columbians are being reminded to call 911 for true emergencies only as the centre responsible for answering the calls braces for its highest call volume in two decades.
E-Comm, the emergency communications centre responsible for answering B.C.’s 911 calls, is expecting an escalation in calls based on a loosening of COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings, increased cellphone use, an aging population, the illicit drug toxicity crisis, mental-health challenges and extreme weather events.
In the last quarter of 2021, call volumes were up 22 per cent compared to the year prior, according to E-Comm.
This year is shaping up to be even busier, with E-Comm predicting a further increase of 12 per cent in emergency calls.

Something seems fishy. Single incidents are surely not up 22% plus.
a loosening of COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings, increased cellphone use, an aging population, the illicit drug toxicity crisis, mental-health challenges and extreme weather events.
And only some of these seem plausible. For example, worldwide, people killed or injured in extreme weather events has dropped dramatically in the past 50 years.

I’m surprised you still have to call. You’d think nowadays they’d only respond to text.
It might be more efficient to have a 911 app.
If you yourself or a person near you (in your house etc.) is in medical distress, right away you get a voice/person.
But reporting of a house fire, car crash, suspicious person etc. can probably use the app just as well. Where many might be calling at once it'd be quicker to discard multiple reports. Than answering and saying "yes, we already have reports of that fire".

Victoria doesn’t even respond to preregistered SMS for 911 for deaf/folks with hearing loss yet. Something that Vancouver and many other areas in the country have had for a decade. I was part of the test group for this and super annoyed at e-comm for not getting this in place province wide.I’m surprised you still have to call. You’d think nowadays they’d only respond to text.
