On a real nice summer day, that section of street seems so unlike anything else in Victoria. It's weird.

It is extremely noisy all summer long especially at night with all the University students. Not my cup of tea but still a popular spot.

As modern faux manor houses go I actually don't mind that house on Allbay Road. It has a fair bit of old-esque character without looking too McMansiony awkward or goofy-tastic. The window above the vehicle entrance might be the only really awkward thing shown in those pics.
Anyway, somebody here should pick that place up.

I always scratch my head over ones like this. Why live on such an expansive property when you can barely afford to keep up the home?

I think these kinds of homes are remnants of family inheritances from the days back when only the less fortunate folks lived way out on distant and relatively undeveloped Ten Mile Point. When I was a kid 60 years ago here in Victoria, and just like James Bay and Gonzales, Ten Mile Point was considered a less than desirable neighbourhood, and the folks that lived there were never considered wealthy or privileged.
These homes lacking maintenance are owned by regular folks, not well-to-do, but still owning their inherited parents or grandparents home while holding down a normal job - barely able to afford the Ten Mile Point property taxes in 2025, and certainly not able to afford any sort of massive home upgrade.
The house in the picture would have qualified as a tear-down 25-35 years ago, so it predates any conceptual thinking that would eventually call Ten Mile Point one of Victoria's most "upscale" neighbourhoods.
BUT - when the day comes around to finally sell it out of the family, the massive financial windfall is indisputable.
