I kind of like the bulbs, maybe we can do both?

For big special events like Canada Day.
Like they do to Niagara Falls where the face of the falls is lit up at night in patterns and flags

Can't see them getting rid of the lights anytime soon. Too iconic for the city, plus they spent a tidy sum not too long ago replacing them all with LED bulbs, about $6 a pop.

The new metal pole is in place with a hydraulic support to help in lowering the pole at the hinged base.
The brand new rope will probably go missing as that seems vulnerable, along with the solid brass cleats.
There is also a security camera part way up with what appears to be a solar panel.
The top of the pole has three lights, and presently NO flag flying.

Something tells me that will be rectified by 4:30 this Saturday afternoon.

As long as the halyard doesn't go missing.

I am sure Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be thoroughly searched before they are allowed to leave the grounds.

The new pole is 100ft from the ground to the top.
The old wooden pole was 130ft
It was all wired last week.

The old pole had a lock box to prevent anyone accessing the rope if I recall correctly. I wonder why this one has been made such a tempting target for a******s.

It should be safe for the next few days, I bet there is night security there now, save anyone putting a land-mine in the garden.
After all, the royal couple are visiting the site of the deadliest terrorist (planned) attack in BC history, the July 1 bomb plot.

The present one looks traditional for the Royals visit, but long term that expensive yacht braid will keep going missing until they sort out a locking mechanism.

Didn't see any security there today. But come to think of it those gardeners, they were gardeners I hope, might have been removing the flowers.

I'm sure one was MI6 disguised as a gardener.

Yikes! and I had my eye on that 300 feet of rope.
