This just tells me that we aren't paying our educators enough.
An EA (Education Assistant) makes between $25 and $29 an hour in BC. They only get 30 hours a week, and there's no income during the summer months, which necessitates a second source of income for many of them.

She said she could not reveal how much of an increase the union is seeking.
The union is also asking to remove a two-tier system that provides a greater wage increase for teachers than for support staff, said Bray, the lead negotiator for the union.
“We’re not interested in a two-tiered wage offer that offers a greater general wage increase to the teachers versus the support staff. We believe all of the workers at St. Margaret’s are equally as important for the overall success of the school,” Bray said.
It seems lazy to me when I read an article like this, and I am left wondering what the wage amounts are, what the demands are, what the two-tiered system is about.
That would be the most interesting part of the article, but it's omitted here.

Things are looking good on the south side of the (Vic High) building re: the pillars and the gold engraved lettering. So what's the proper term for the element above the cornice that contains the lettering?
edit: forgot to mention which school I was talking about

North Vancouver Island school district faces sex abuse allegations
The suit alleges a Port Hardy Secondary School teacher sexually abused the child starting in 1981 or 1984.
The suit seeks, general, special, aggravated and punitive damages.Jeremy Hainsworth
A B.C. man is alleging a Port Hardy high school teacher sexually assaulted him in the 1980s, according to a new lawsuit filed in B.C. Supreme Court this week.
In the notice of civil claim filed May 29, Joseph Michael Edward Sanderman names the Vancouver Island North School District as the defendant.
Sanderman alleges Port Hardy Secondary School teacher Gordon Bell sexually abused him starting in 1981 or 1984.
The claim alleges that Bell used his position of authority to ensure the child did not report the abuse. It further alleges the district created an environment in which the abuse could occur.
The suit seeks, general, special, aggravated and punitive damages.
School district chair Leightan Wishart did not return Glacier Media’s call requesting comment. Repeated emails to district staff bounced back.

The Township of Esquimalt is one step closer towards building its first artificial turf field at an estimated cost of $4.6 million.
Council unanimously voted Monday night in support of a motion that staff create a business proposal and draft agreements in preparation for an all-weather turf field at Esquimalt High School.
Esquimalt is the only core municipality in the capital region that doesn’t have an all-weather field, said Coun. Ken Armour, adding the current grass field has poor drainage and is unplayable after rain.
“It really cuts into the athletic opportunities for our kids and it forces them, frankly, to go to other fields,” Armour said. “It isn’t in alignment with our climate-change goals either, because they’re having to drive all around Greater Victoria to find a field that they will be able to play on during the winter.”

Esquimalt might want to try a different argument to justify this expenditure.
...The fibers [in artificial turf] are typically made from nylon, polypropylene or polyethylene...Artificial grass can contribute to global warming by absorbing significantly more radiation than living grass and, to a lesser extent, by displacing living plants that could remove carbon dioxide through photosynthesis...

Why don’t they get a summer job? One of my teachers back in the day worked as a border guard in the summer months. He once told us he did not like to do the rectal examination, but I still cringe going through the borderand there's no income during the summer months, which necessitates a second source of income for many of them.

Whenever you promote any kind of action in service of such an agenda, you're required to include a glaring contradiction. Those who don't want to see it will not see it.

The pay is around $25/hour. It’s not likely they’ll garner a great deal of interest at that rate.
