Sheriff: Gene Hackman, wife found dead in Santa Fe home; no foul play suspected

 

 

 

Legendary actor, two-time Oscar winner and author Gene Hackman and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, were found dead Wednesday afternoon in their home in the Santa Fe Summit community northeast of the city.

 

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed just after midnight Thursday the couple had died, along with their dog.

 

 

 

 

How do two people and their dog die?   Either carbon monoxide or suicide?

Best theory I heard so far is Gene (95) may have suffered a fall and/or heart attack. Betsy (65?) performs CPR but it’s exhausting and she suffers her own heart attack shortly after while trying to retrieve medication in the bathroom. One of the dogs ingests a pill and dies. The other 2 dogs stay alive.

Hackman was found in the mud room with sunglasses flung across the room, likely a fall. Wife OD's on prescription pills? Dog is shut in his kennel and likely died from lack of water and food. They had been dead for quite a while.

Very sad. His dementia must have been quite severe to not know how to deal with his dead wife in the house for a week.
