I was wondering if the daily pass was just for a day, rather than for a specific date. I guess I should just pay the ten bucks and find out. If I end up receiving a pass for today that I can't use then we'll all have a good laugh about it.

It's nothing that a media-driven GoFundMe campaign can't resolve, is my point.

You could always go there, ask, and then buy the appropriate pass online while you stand near the entrance.

It seems to me this tournament has never really tried that hard to get attendance numbers up.

And there are lots of places you can walk in for free.

Years past I recall it was virtually the honour system...not a lot of effort in security checking everybody, I don't think the budgeting plans for much on paid attendance (which I think goes to charity in any event). Been the same price for years now. When the Canuck PGA tour connects with the PGA Latino circuit (next year?) it might be a bigger deal, more international players.

Though with how equipment/fitness etc has changed over the years, Uplands' 6420 yards from the tips (and pretty flat) is virtually a pitch and putt. Waiting for a score in the 50's...needs the wind to blow to make it a real test.

The course record is 60, so I dunno, its hard enough to keep people out of that 'perfect' 59 score.

Waiting for a score in the 50's...

It's not an unusual occurrence at VV's annual tournament. I've seen Mike K. score 50 on the very first hole.

Four tied for lead heading into final round of Royal Beach Victoria Open as golfers chase their pro dreams

The wind howled across Uplands Golf Club on Saturday afternoon but Hayden Shieh, Jason Hong, Étienne Papineau and George Kneiser howled back. The four were tied for the lead at 12-under 198s following the third round of the $200,000 Royal Beach Victoria Open presented by the Times Colonist, the first event of the 10-tournament 2023 PGA Tour Canada season.

If Papineau suffered any effects from his cross-country trek, from playing in the RBC Canadian Open last week in Toronto to chipping and putting at Uplands this week, he wasn’t showing it, despite the blustery conditions.

I think I suggested this once for all kinds of parks and schools.

This would certainly put a lot of money in Aryze's coffers.

I like the people saying "as long as they are affordable!"

Yes, housing adjacent to a golf course should always be subsidized.   :judge:

There's lots of places you could do this. Panama flats. Layritz park area/Wilkinson Jail lands etc etc. Lots of big parks where you could encroach into with housing. Cedar Hill golf course is a park, setup for a sport.

Not only that, but I don’t live on CHGC because I can’t afford to - houses on a golf course usually command a premium.  How long will this housing stay affordable, given market forces?

As long as the taxpayers are willing to subsidize it (i.e. continue to re-elect socialist governments).

Well, the residents can make a small fortune selling all the golf balls that will hit their house.

As it is, Cedar Hill golf course is a crazy special walking and recreational space in the heart of town. It's a garry oak meadow lover's dream. You couldn't plan that kind of walking route today if you tried. Lots of surprises and rewards along the way, viewpoints, changes in elevation, etc. And it's already embraced by residential development the entire way around. Obviously I wouldn't object to selective and/or strategic redevelopment here or there, but otherwise why can't it just continue to be what it is? Why is innovation always about trying to muck up good things while ignoring the things that really need attention?

I think I agree.

Our small town mentality is to view only what is, as the only thing to value. We couldn’t possibly leave the core alone, and build nice stuff elsewhere.

Know it all.

A couple times at Cedar Hill I have veered off the path / jogging track into the golfer’s trail. They get really pissed and animated.

I don’t think it’s the end of the world jogging at the edge of the fairways. But the golfers go ballistic like it’s WW3.

I seem to see somebody doing it maybe every other time that I've been there. Lots of people walk there who don't know anything about gold golf. And kids on bikes are often going off the trail onto the cart paths. But this is what I'm saying. For non-golfers it's already effectively a park/walking trail that just happens to have a golf course down the middle of it.
