..but let’s be honest, a one game playoff is essentially a coin flip. The difference can be as small as one player having a great day or a starting pitcher having a bad start.

Ya, so is a hockey shootout.  Look, you had 162 games to win the division (in hockey, you had 65 minutes to get it done).  You did not do it.  Now you get this second chance, however crazy it is.  I'm fine with it.

Not really fair to compare baseball to hockey here when every hockey playoff series is best of 7 games. One shootout would only decide one game, and there are no shootouts in playoffs (unless this has recently changed).

Look, 3 or whenever years ago, Baltimore would have been out (admittedly, Toronto would have been in).  This one-gamer is great TV!   Why not... 15 years ago both Toronto and Baltimore would have been out 3 weeks ago.

Oh the Wild Card games are fabulous TV. The ratings are generally very good.

There are so many ways to lose a baseball game. Passed balls, defensive errors, wild pitches, blown saves, controversial balls and strikes etc. It all makes for great TV.

It's going to be a very tense evening tomorrow. Having some folks over for a light dinner and the game.

I agree, Do away with the World Series and just have wild card games.   :muching_out:

I wonder how hard the Blue Jays will be trying tonight, since they already guzzled the champagne two days ago.

This being a must win game, I bet the Jays take no chances with their pitching and utilize 5 or 6 pitchers unless Stroman is absolutely cruising. There’s no point in resting anybody for a tomorrow that may never come.

I bet we see

Stroman

Liriano

Cecil

Grilli

And Osuna

all pitch tonight.

I think that's a good bet.  But if Stroman pitches a shut-out through many innings, he will not be removed until trouble.

The roof will be open tonight. Jays are 34-16 with the roof open this this year.

This will be the first playoff game ever that the Jays play at home with the roof open.

Nice.  Good so far.  1-0 Jays end of 3.

So awesome Edwin. You could have bunted in the winning run if you needed to (have you ever bunted?). But you did it in style instead.

I watched at the Taphouse, and there was 225 people in there and a line-up out the door at 8pm, it was at capacity.

They are bringing Gregg Zaun in next month, with the HarbourCats.

Give aastra a point for predicting that they would revive the same goofy narrative from last year re: Canadians don't know baseball, don't respect baseball, etc. Although I thought it would come later, maybe in the world series itself.

But even so, I'm still baffled as to why they would be playing this angle in 2015-2016. You didn't hear it for decades, and then all of a sudden it's a thing again.

Division sells, I guess.

Haven't watched a ball game for several years now and caught the last 4 innings last night. Terrific game with the right slam-bang ending. Good stuff, good enough to bring me back for tonight's game and more.

That was a great game! Fabulous pitching, great defense and clutch hitting is what playoff baseball is all about.

Here's a little about what we know for game-watching on Friday, at 10am.

Yates Taphouse opens early

Strath Games Room (only) opens early

Irish Times is open at 9am every day.

Prairie Inn is open at 10am weekdays

Frankie's Modern Diner downtown will have it in their lounge, limited seating, reservation recommended

White Spots have TVs, not sure about sound
