“I look forward to comparing my record as mayor with her record as a Gordon Campbell cabinet minister,” [Fortin] said. - See more at: http://www.timescolo...h.6TIbN2b8.dpuf
Ha! Burn!
As for former Campbell MLAs, Sheila Orr probably would have had more luck getting elected as mayor or councillor had she kept up a more public profile other than her gig as a CBC political panelist.

Wow I had no idea Ida used to be a councillor in Saanich.

It's where she lives, so it made sense then. She and Frank Leonard are old pals, so that's why she's not running for Mayor in Saanich.
As for Sheila Orr, Holden, she's actually backing Lisa Helps, which says something, both about Lisa Helps being able to rise above the traditional political divides, and the fact that an old school BC Liberal power broker isn't backing Ida Chong.

IDA is running because the 'business community' recruited her for Victoria and is funding her run. They wouldn't back her in Saanich.
Tne bc was supposed to be recruiting a whole slate but who knows where that stands.

Who will benefit from Ida being in the race? I am not sure. I think she may cut into the money Dean Fortin would like raise from the business community. She is also likely to take votes from Dean Fortin that are worried Lisa Helps is too radical.
Ida Chong on the other hand may push a lot New Democrats to back Dean Fortin because of fear. I expect Dean Fortin to focus his energy on Ida Chong as dangerous BC Liberal type, give her more credibility to cut Lisa Helps campaign down a few notches.
I have been hearing that the GVCC would have a whole slate, but I can not even find a good rumour of who that might be.

Quite honestly if Chong enters the race Fortin has another term locked in.

Yeah, I think Ida won't hurt one more than the other. It's not like 20 odd years ago when businessman Kelly Armstrong backed out so Bob Cross would have a clear path to victory over lefty David Turner.
Quite honestly if Chong enters the race Fortin has another term locked in.
Yes, very tough for Helps.

What I hope will happen:
Helps: 6,500
Fortin: 5,800
Chong: 1,500
What I think will happen:
Fortin: 7,500
Helps: 5,800
Chong: 3,500

She's promising a 4-year property tax freeze. That's unique. And likely to trigger more spending by CUPE on other candidates.

Easy to promise; probably much harder to deliver. Does she layout exactly how she will sustain current services and ongoing maintenance with no additional revenue for 4 years? Perhaps Ms. Chong knows of some as yet unannounced source of income for the city. Liquified natural gas perhaps? I understand that's a guaranteed money maker...sometime in the future.

Let me guess: followed by a year five tax massive eruption. We've seen this so many times from government, BC Hydro et cetera. There's no free lunch and no such thing as a sustainable long-term tax freeze. Prices and labour costs are always rising. You can only hold the tidal wave back for so long.
The onus is on Ida to prove it's real. Pics or go home.

She says she'll:
Now, that all sounds easy to say right now, but might be tougher to articulate when in a Q & A session, or debate. She's also acknowledged that some people will try to use her non-residency against her.

You know there's something wrong when your biggest pool of supporters, right here on VV, is questioning your campaign promises.

Ya, but not everyone follows as close as us.
Andrew J. Reeve says there were 150 supporters at her reception this morning. I think you have to presume she comes with a very large volunteer team left over from her provincial politics, and we heard reports of them raising $30k at that first meeting a few weeks back, before she was in.
