I went past there moments after it happened. It looked like the crane got too close to the edge of the pit and tumbled in.

Wow. And here I thought the new posts in this thread would be by someone musing about the crane going up at the OB hotel.

Hope the guy recovers quickly.

They also say he was a volunteer construction worker, so presumably he was a Jehovah's Witness as well.

Everyone is going out of their way to say he was all legit, although it's unclear what a "Jevhovah" is, according to the TC report...

THE MAN, A LICENSED CERTIFIED CRANE OPERATOR...

The injured driver is certified as a crane operator, said Bill Middleton, chairman of the regional building committee for Jevhovah Witnesses of Vancouver Island.

That would be 3:

1 @ Mondrian
1 @ Songhees Wellness Centre
1 @ Uptown (although not for much longer I would assume)

Is there really a tower crane for the Songhees Wellness centre? Maybe one of those Jr. tower cranes?

There's also one for the Hudson, although it has been inactive for several years, and of course another inactive one still up at Bear Mountain.

Songhees is a full tower crane and not a self erecting. Its Scansca's crane as they are doing the excavation and formwork.

I don't count the Hudson and Highlander as they are just giant windvanes just floating in the wind.

First Google result for "Maplebank Rd Wellness Center" - http://www.sd61.bc.c...nnouncement.pdf

and from - http://www.timescolo...7282/story.html

"The $13-million, 35,000-square-foot facility will include a 350-seat gym as well as a fitness centre and conference centre."

I thought that was a nice circular square at first, then I noticed the parking spots.

How many tower cranes are currently up in the city? I can think of five. There must be more.

Promontory (Vic West)
Mondrian (Downtown)
Sovereign (Downtown)
Wellness Centre (Admirals Rd.)
Capital City Centre (Colwood)

Era (Downtown) should be soon.
