The existing pool represents a massive loss of green space in the heart of Victoria. There were no buildings in Central Park when the existing pool was built. If Victorians today don't recognize that decision as a catastrophic mistake, a crime against the environment and against the city's fundamental livability, etc. then exactly what are we so worried about when we fret about alterations to green space today? This is just more of that double-mindedness re: political rhetoric being much more important than hard realities. We care... but only within imposed intellectual/emotional confines. We both care and don't care at the same time.
And meanwhile, there are surface parking lots aplenty all over town... and even a fair number of empty lots.
