Fired on this day last year for telling immigrants to wear poppies. Many here defended his firing, for he committed the cardinal sin: holding immigrants to any kind of Canadian standard

Many here defended his firing because what he said was untrue and did not reflect reality and the decision to "cancel" him was decades in the making.

We dishonour our veterans when we celebrate figures who judge the motives of people of colour they spot walking down the street.

He was fired for telling immigrants to wear poppies. You can dress it up with whatever leftist wokeness dogma you like.

My son will be reciting In Flanders Fields at the cenotaph here tomorrow, for what I’m sure will be a small crowd.

Lest we forget.

Did Comrade Isitt make any of his infamous anti-veteran rantings leading up to Remembrance Day this year?

Solid turnout for the Oak Bay Cenotaph this morning. I would estimate 4-500. Considering they advised people to stay away plus it was raining and quite cold it was heartening to see a solid contingent of Citizens turn out and pay respects.

Bit confused about the flag, it was 1/2 mast at the beginning then was raised and lowered for the Last Post but remained down for Reveille and both National Anthems. I thought the 1/2 mast thing was done  Federal government to keep Canadian flags raised after Remembrance Day ceremonies (msn.com)

City Hall isn't a Federal building.

I’ve been spending the day streaming Hogan's Heroes. Never watched it much in the past

Still have it on channel 69(shaw) sometimes

It is odd, since there aren’t any current (federal) half-masting notices. Maybe ask the flagpole owner? In any case, the half-masting for Remembrance Day can start at 1100 according to protocol, so what you saw wasn’t incorrect as far as I know.

“When half-masting occurs at the National War Memorial or a place where remembrance is being observed, the half-masting can occur at 11:00 a.m. (or according to the prescribed order of service) until sunset.“

Went downtown today for the service as always.  I was surprised to not see the 5th Field howitzers doing their usual salute.  However, when I watched the news tonight, I saw they did have the guns somewhere.  I didn't hear them, nor can I figure out where this picture was taken.  Any ideas?

Could that be the West Song Walkway near Spinnakers?

Know it all.

Masking outside seems superfluous, unless the people in the photo are unvaccinated.

I thought maybe, but the trees/brambles look wrong. I still don't understand how you couldn't hear them at the legislature.

My son was invited to read In Flanders Fields again this year. Gotta get that kid some new dress shoes, hopefully he’s done growing now.

Lest we forget.
