The German invasion.

16 days later, the Russians/Soviets would invade from the east.

Talk about a tough month.  Hopefully the misunderstanding was all cleared up by Thanksgiving.

It’s still tense. As tense as ever.

Europe is one hell of a messed up continent.

Know it all.

- Two Minutes of Silence -

“The most sacrosanct and central element in Remembrance is the Two Minutes of Silence.

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the month, day and time in 1918 when the First World War ceased hostilities, Canadians pause to observe two minutes of silence to honour the Fallen, and recognize the sacrifices or servicemen and women.”

That kinda talk ended Don Cherry's career. Didn't land him in jail at least.

It was really kind of a last straw.  Problem is he had been allowed, likely prodded to say some pretty derogatory things at times, though there were some punishments and probably some talks behind the scenes.  Times change, really should go around insulting and such on a show that kids watch and laugh at... At times he was hilarious, at some other times (fewer) he was pretty cringe.

I miss John Madden more...

Thankfully sane and rational heads prevailed and that ludicrous suggestion has been withdrawn and the principal who suggested it got shredded by the premier, parents of kids attending that school, veteran's groups and various national news media. And so she should have. Of all the stupid, wrong-headed, dumb-a** ideas.

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) is planning to hold flypasts across the country to commemorate Remembrance Day, including over many communities on Vancouver Island.

In the Mid-Island, either a CC-130H Hercules plane – which is primarily used for search and rescue – or a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter will fly over Comox, Courtenay, Cumberland, Qualicum Beach and Campbell River.

Meanwhile, a CP-140 Aurora, a plane used for long-range patrol, will fly over Nanaimo and Lantzville on Nov. 11.

I only remember him from when I watched the Oilers as a kid so can't speak to his history. I did watch that clip though and I don't remember it being that bad. He was saying if you come here, you should wear the poppy. IDK. Maybe the clip should be dragged out and looked at again.

I just watched it. He said the dreaded “you people” but what he was saying is you came here, you love it here, respect those that fought to make it so.

A gentle reminder if you are out and about today - please wear your poppy. As I posted this morning on my FB page with images of my grandfather from his wartime service

"Today is not the day for political or social commentary statements, memes or posts. Today is reserved for people and principles higher and far more noble than any of those things could ever aspire to be".

Remember our vets and their sacrifices today of all days.

But that’s a post!

Anyone with a brain got the message fortunately, and I'm happy to say of my 500+ FB contacts, which include both American family and lots of friends south of the 49th, some of whom are devout fans of the recently elected President, every single one of them received the message loud and clear and refrained from posting anything other than comments related directly to the subject at hand, i.e remembering and honoring our veterans. It was their day - not some random politician's: they get their ego's stroked enough on the other 364 days of the year.....

IMO on Remembrance Day, the sacrifices made by so many on behalf of the rest of us are infinitely more important than squabbling politicians of any stripe in any jurisdiction. That sacrifice includes two members of my own family who paid the ultimate price: on this day politics, religion and any other subject that causes discord or division were not welcome and I appreciate the fact everyone on my FB feed abided by the request.
