The bZ5 is the first vehicle from the BYD-Toyota joint venture. It is an electric sedan that will be sold under BYD and Toyota brands with some minor design changes. The patent images don’t represent a mass-production version, but we can still get acquainted with its design features.

The head of Volkswagen in the United States has issued a warning about the obstacles that the industry will face in its transition to electric vehicles.

Keogh estimated that the United States is making 150,000-200,000 batteries a year and that seven years from now “we need to be making 8.5 million batteries” annually.

“This is a scale of investment that honestly is going to make the industrial revolution look like a cake walk. It’s massive,” Keogh said. Keogh also said the United States needs to do more to boost manufacturing capacity. The US manufacturing sector has fallen from than 17 million jobs in 2000 to 12.8 million today, which has rebounded to about pre-covid-19 pandemic levels.

If only there was an existing infrastructure and by-product we could use to fuel our vehicles separately from the already taxed electrical grid….

^ This is pretty cool:

According to Astron Aerospace, all of this makes the Omega 1 the world's first engine with an active linear power transfer. "As the Omega 1 engine rotates," the company says on its website, "all the power is transferred through the single rotating power shaft." The firm also says the Omega 1 doesn't require rota seals due to tight tolerances and such high RPMs that there's not enough time for air to leak.

Those seals were always the issues with the Wankel engines.

Langford could be set to install 12 new electric vehicle charging stations across the city if council decides to accept the Capital Regional District’s invitation to take part in grant funding.

________________________

Langford’s stations are set to cost $170,000, which will be fully covered by the CRD grant. A fee would be charged at the stations and the CRD would take on the operations and maintenance responsibilities – unless Langford decides to keep those responsibilities.

Also on the agenda for Langford council’s June 20 meeting is the adoption of a bylaw that would require 100 per cent of parking spaces to have an outlet capable of providing Level 2 charging or higher – excluding visitor parking spaces – in all new developments. This would cut costs for residents who want to install electric vehicle charging stations by avoiding expensive renovations.

The e:NP1, the first production model under GAC Honda’s all-electric vehicle brand e:NP, officially hit the market on June 20. Coming with four trim levels, the new model is priced between 175,000 yuan ($26,180) and 218,000 yuan ($32,620) after subsidies.

The e:NP1 made its debut at the Auto Guangzhou 2021 in November last year. Its Chinese name “Ji Pai 1” was announced on March 29 this year, when GAC Honda launched the brand “e:NP” (named “Ji Pai” in Chinese).

Sure and add to the cost of every new unit.

Not enough batteries and not enough electricity. Can't let facts get in the way of climate change though.

Yes, it's hard to know why it's mandatory.  But it's also hard to see how some existing buildings will ever get enough votes to put in a system.

You'd be surprised what we can overcome.  And quick.

Electrical service upgrades to existing buildings would be very costly.

In some cases, for sure.  But in 2040 when the only new cars you can buy in BC are electric (by law), who wants a condo with no charging?  Talk about a white elephant.

I’d definitely be voting to put that expense aside.

Elon Musk anticipated it: that Teslas would become the most popular cars in the near future. Well, the Model 3 was not the world's best-selling car in 2021, but it certainly did a brilliant job by entering the exclusive top 10. According to the figures, this electric sedan occupied the 9th position in the ranking thanks to its strong growth of 40% vs 2020 to 508,000 units. It is also the first time that a fully-electric car goes so far in the sales volume.

A new type of silicon-anode lithium-ion battery could be the solution the EV market is waiting for, as it can apparently charge from empty to full in less than 10 minutes.

Designed and built by California-based Enovix, the battery also maintains 93 percent of its capacity past 1,000 charges and was minimally affected by six months of operation at elevated temperatures, the company claims. These are both key parts of the US Advanced Battery Consortium's (USABC) high-performance EV battery goals.

Per the USABC [PDF], a battery that can reach 80 percent charge in 15 minutes and handle at least 1,000 charging cycles can be called "advanced," and by that standard Enovix has accomplished goals that USABC considered mid- to long-term.

Tesla announced late last week that its new production facility in Germany, Gigafactory Berlin, achieved a production rate of 1,000 cars in a week. The facility was commissioned for production in March, meaning the 1,000 run rate is a huge step in the right direction, especially in terms of the plant’s production ramp.

Tesla’s Twitter account announced the accomplishment initially, congratulating the German factory on a job well done.
