Is The Tesla Model Y The World’s Best Selling Vehicle Right Now?

As you can see by my research above, Tesla is likely to be the best selling SUV in the world in the third quarter and the best selling vehicle of any type by the fourth quarter of this year. As far as revenue, Tesla is already generating about 3 times the dollar sales of these top sellers and that lead will continue to increase as Tesla looks to approximately double Model Y production over the next two years from today’s levels!

The B.C. government said it will up the maximum electric vehicle rebate to $4,000 — a $1,000 increase — as part of a new program targeting those who need it more.

Combined with federal rebates, British Columbians can now receive up to $9,000 to buy a new electric car.

The provincial EV rebate program will be available to individuals earning less than $80,000 a year. It will apply to the purchase or lease of full electric vehicles, fuel-cell vehicles and long-range plug-in hybrids.

You will still need to find the cash or finance the remaining $30,000+ for a Nissan Leaf. A Chevy Bolt is probably affordable under this scheme.

Canadians pay on average over $50,000 for new cars today.

On the new vehicle side, the average price in Canada exceeded $50,000 for the first time in Dec. 2021 to reach $50,758, an increase of 12.7 per cent compared to Dec. 2020.

I wish they’d just get rid of all the incentives. They aren’t needed anymore.

I think Lucid is sunk.

Lucid Group Inc. fell as much as 13% in late trading after the luxury electric-vehicle startup halved its 2022 production target to 6,000 to 7,000 cars.

It’s the second time the Newark, California-based startup has reduced its output goal this year, from an original target of 20,000 cars.

Saudi-backed Lucid said it produced 1,405 vehicles in the first half of 2022 and attributed the lower full-year target to “extraordinary supply chain and logistics challenges.”

The company delivered just 1,039 cars.

Lucid Motors will barely make any EVs this year as it slashes production goals again

Tesla vehicles are increasing Hertz’s customer satisfaction, still adding more EVs to the fleet

With respect to electric vehicles in our airport and off-airport fleet, we’ve recorded over 160,000 transaction days using Tesla cars, booked at premium rates that are typically $30 to $35 in excess of comparable average rates. Customers are enjoying the Tesla EV experience, which is being expressed in NPS scores that are 10 points higher than our global average. We are continuing to expand the electric vehicle offering through the regular delivery of Tesla cars and now Polestars.

CATL to Supply M3P Batteries to Tesla in Q4

The M3P battery is an important part of future passenger car solutions for CATL. Wu Kai, chief scientist at CATL, said at the World EV & ES Battery Conference last week that CATL will divide the new energy vehicle market into three segments with battery lifespans ranging from 300-500km to 700km to 1000km. In the second segment, the solution provided by CATL is the combination of an M3P battery cell and Kirin battery structure.

So by the end of this year Tesla could be producing cars with 700-1000km range.

A group representing General Motors (GM.N), Toyota Motor (7203.T), Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) and other major automakers said a $430 billion bill approved Sunday by the U.S. Senate will put achieving U.S. electric-vehicle adoption targets for 2030 in jeopardy.

"Unfortunately, the EV tax credit requirements will make most vehicles immediately ineligible for the incentive," said the Alliance for Automotive Innovation's chief executive, John Bozzella, adding the bill "will also jeopardize our collective target of 40-50% electric vehicle sales by 2030."

The group had warned Friday that most EV models would not qualify for a $7,500 tax credit for U.S. buyers under the bill.

To be eligible for the credit, vehicles must be assembled in North America, which would make some current EVs ineligible as soon as the bill takes effect.

China’s CATL, the world’s largest battery maker, is pressing ahead with plans to deliver lower-cost lithium iron batteries to Ford Motor Co and with plans for battery production in North America by 2026, a person with knowledge of the matter said on Wednesday.

Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday that CATL was delaying a decision on a North American plant after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, saying that an announcement could still come by September or October.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that before Pelosi’s visit, which China sees as a provocation, CATL had been planning to announce its North American investment plans this month.

Tesla has disclosed that it is lobbying the Ontario government for a potential new factory in Canada. The new lobbying effort comes after several hints from Tesla CEO Elon Musk in regards to building a Gigafactory in the country.

In June, Electrek obtained a recording of a companywide meeting held by Musk, during which he confirmed that Tesla is looking at sites in North America and the CEO hinted to Canada.

Musk did it again at Tesla’s annual shareholders meeting last week.

Now Electric Autonomy Canada reports a new lobbying disclosure from Tesla in Ontario revealing that the company is engaging with the government to reform permitting and for possible incentives regarding an “advanced manufacturing facility.”

In Canada, companies have to disclose all their lobbying efforts with the government.
