At 3 I was running my own transmission shop.
When I was 5 years old I had to make my own shoes so that I could walk to school.

Good age.
I quite literally had to build my bed before I could sleep on it.
That's nothing!

hmmn, not to sure how excited my kids would have been changing oil in car or digging in the dirt and I would guess the percentage of people who actually do that with their kids is pretty small.
Although we do have memories of going down to fisherman's wharf on Sunday afternoons, playing in beacon hill park, going to the the symphony splash, Canada Day, Santa Clause parade, taking in plays, concerts, hockey games ...
Living downtown if not for everyone, but neither is living in the suburbs, each to their own and respect the others.
I take my kids to fisherman's wharf and beacon hill park too and the symphony too...
What's your point?

And that is why it's too bad it is uninspiring and more of the same.... #notadestinationThe Belmont Market Shopping Centre is in a good central location it will be the centre of Langford even though it sits right on the Colwood border. The old CNR line now called the galloping goose trail is the border

Construction has not begun. they are in the site preparation phase which will take a weeks or months
I was there the other day speaking with the the site superintendent for Scansa construction who are the site prep contractors
There will be no or minimal excavation on the site .
Geotech surveys have found that native material which is all glacial till is only about 2ft below grade and the material they have scraped off into piles consists mainly of soil from the playing fields
What they have done the past few days is scrape off the dirt and they are bringing in blast rock to raise the grade 2 metres from its current elevation.
So instead of excavation they will be bringing a lot of material in .

Speaking of excavation, it's also important to remember that there are several woodframe residential buildings that will be built as part of this project, so there will be some serious digging going on once that's ready to move forward.
Construction starts on Belmont Market Shopping Centre, Langford's newest big-box shopping destination
