Just finished my latest article, this time on things to do in Point Roberts, Washington this time of year. Have a read and let me know what you think!

In America's 'most Canadian town,' Trump's trade war wounds wallets and hearts

The tiny community of Point Roberts is a little bit of America, firmly fixed to British Columbia.

^ From speaking with my family, it is on some days quieter than the pandemic. It is truly unfortunate, but that is the impact of what the US government is doing.

I have a new article up on the Legacy Art Gallery on Yates Street. If you've never been before, go! They have a great show on The Point Group, an expressionist collective from Victoria in the 1960's. Have a read and let me know what you think! #yyj #victoriabc #arts

Help Point Roberts, with lessons attached

Re: “Canada should step up for Point Roberts,” letter, March 18.

A quick search on the political makeup of Point Roberts reveals close to 50 per cent Republican voters.

So how does B.C. navigate this in regard to potential water and energy supply for that community?

The letter implies that our seemingly bottomless empathy should set an example for all of Canada and the U.S. to take note. I would argue that 99 per cent of Americans and Canadians wouldn’t even know where Point Roberts is, let alone care.

The reality of Trump’s tariff war on us and his never-ending vitriol regarding our sovereignty needs to hit our dear neighbours square in the face.

Perhaps in lieu of using bumper stickers supporting Canada, the mayor of Point Roberts should host a few town halls explaining consequences of voting for the party that worships the most ill-equipped human being to sit in the White House.

Of course we will do the “right,” also known as “Canadian” thing, but it should come with some basic lessons on trade partnerships and the ramifications of breaking those agreements.

Somewhere in there, we forget that people have a democratic right, and shouldn’t be punished for exercising it.

Americans no more knew this would happen, than we knew Trudeau would erode the financial health of Canada.

We depend more on the Americans than they do on us. We cannot lose sight of this even if Orange Man Bad.

Moving forward we need to become much more independent. I was leaning towards voting Liberal until Carney comments yesterday about capping oil sands emissions and effectively hamstringing Alberta oil production. So far he has refused to make a major commitment to building new pipelines east and west.

I am worried that we are going to just get more of the climate change warrior after the election. I think our economy is on the edge of catastrophe and the realization has not struck home.

His corporate ties via Brookfield appear in alignment with restricting and taxing Canadian energy. As long as your interests are aligned properly, you’ll profit when others lose.

Did Brookfield move out of Canada to shield itself from what Canadians are going to do under the Liberals? Alberta’s riot act read to Carney was perhaps the most descriptive and realistic look at the conflicts this PM has, and asked him to commit to the very things that are going to be a challenge for him.

Yep. But no one wants to punish Americans for this. We want Americans to put pressure on the Orange man to be reasonable.

I’m afraid it will not work. The people that we want to put pressure on Trump, also called him a Russian agent and impeached him twice. He’s never going to listen to them but is likely to return the favour if pressed.

No, we want republicans to put the pressure on him. That’s why BC started with red state booze and is poking at the Alaskans.

A new film photography article is up on Sidewalking Victoria. This time I look at Flic Film's new Street Savvy 400. If you just want to see some photos of Victoria, you can do that too!
