If you are wanting to visit the new Pizza Garden, they will be having their grand opening this Saturday, December 7th from 12-4pm. There will apparently be some free mini pizzas for the first 100 customers to come in during that time. It is definitely worth checking out!

Just when I thought I was out, G-Man pulls me back in. I've been a big fan of Pizza Garden for years and the new Victoria location is terrific.
Seriously, can we take a moment to remember there was actually some pretty serious opposition to the redevelopment of the Customs House building? And the replacement of the lame faux-heritage wing with the fine new building that's there now?
I'd say the new commercial units are quintessential Government Street/old town spaces. I was there recently late on a Sunday afternoon and there was a pleasantly energetic vibe all around the Government St./Courtney St. intersection.

That first block of Government Street is almost all great places to visit now. Here's hoping that it works it way all the way up to Yates.

There's a new article up on Sidewalking Victoria today. I think it might be mostly a therapeutic piece for me to get over the ongoing demolition of The Abbey on Quadra. Have a read and let me know how you feel about this.

Espousing sanctimonious principles for extended periods of time and then suddenly yanking the rug out from under those principles in dramatic fashion has become the theme of 21st-century life, so methinks nobody should be too surprised that this kind of thing is happening.
Chalking it up to "urban change" doesn't hold any water. Plenty of other cities would have at least maintained the facade.
Hey, remember the St. Louis College building at Pandora and Vancouver? Remember that? Remember? ........That was awesome.*

Anyway, those fine old terra cotta arches on the 800-block of North Park Street are probably sweating right about now.

Get out of here with your big city ideas. This is Victoria not Vancouver.

Meanwhile, in Saanich, their 1971 pool is no anywhere near "end of life".
https://hcma.ca/proj...t 35 plus years.
The Gordon Head Recreation Centre required upgrades to some of its original spaces, to allocate space for a preschool, and to augment existing general multi-purpose space.
Originally built in 1971, the Centre has seen many additions over the last 35 plus years. Its first renovation and addition project completed in 2009 is comprised of three parts: renovation of several dry-side program spaces, including the creation of a new home for the pre-school program inside the facility; the renovation of the change rooms to better serve the pool patrons; and the addition of bright, new and airy multi-purpose rooms, to increase the dry-side program offerings.
