I don't quite follow how they refurbished the entire boat and they somehow forgot about doing the engines.

First rule of buying any used vehicle: always check under the hood.

ISn't this how the Nanaimo run ended, damaged engine and then a slow fade?
Yup, pretty much. IIRC, damaged engine -> couldn't repair -> replace engine -> replacement broke -> then out of business. I was a former commuter for several months on the HarbourLynx.
Hope they have deep pockets for repairs and such.

They just announced it on their Facebook page, at least:
Quote
Due to mechanical issues encountered with one of our engines on-board the V2V Empress, we have temporarily suspended our service while we address these issues.
Alternative methods of transportation are being made for guests who are presently booked to travel with V2V Vacations within the next four (4) weeks.
Still, this is like the 14th red flag since they started sailing. I rarely like to see a new business fail, but is it too late to join the betting pool on how long before they fold up operations altogether?
The next 4 weeks are nearly up. My guess is they will need all the engine controls to the bridge upgraded as well.
And then there are the sea trials. A doubt if they will be ready to go into service for another month.

We understand it's to the 15th of October at least now.

On the bright side, there are fewer operating costs during these repairs and based on the passengers numbers since they started V2V aren't really losing that much business. They might even discover it actually saves them money to be drydocked.

There is NO bright side to any of this.
They are paying for another haul out that was unnecessary if they had replaced the engines when they were out before.
Maybe not loosing much business but loosing credibility.

So does having to explain to people when I am clearly not being serious.

I see V2V vacations is a finalist in the "innovator of the year award", might want to hold off on the statue for a bit.

Yeah, this wasn't an engine "swap". Looks like they had to rebuild the original somewhere.
