Sigh.. yes the great Scaper has taken many fine photos of that building, but alas 'tis mine. And for the record, right from the onset I loved this building, check the tapes! Um, thread.

Scaper's photostream is engrossing. That's where I spend most of my time.

Pic by thegreatscaper or possibly somebody else on flickr.com.

I nominate this building for VV's prestigious "That turned out way better than I thought it would" award. The early images were not flattering, and the design change was such a severe departure from the original concept it almost seemed like they were just struggling to do anything that would get approval. But it turned out well and it's actually quite original. I'm starting to think the premise that every new residential building in Victoria looks exactly the same might be a bit of a misrepresentation. A tad exaggerated.

I feel that you can't go that wrong incorporating some Old Town elements prominently into a new building. In this case, it works wonders. Imagine if the podium section were to look like the top, then this would be another disaster: like Vivid and quite a few other ones.

I'm sure at some point I was worried that it might end up looking too much so, considering its Harris Green setting. But it really does work.

Before too long I predict I'll be wishing the tower portion of HP2 was more like 1400 Quadra and less like HP2.

Mainly because of the brick and the size/shape of the windows.

This structure breaks up the sameness of the buildings along this stretch. I was stuck in traffic the other day on Yates, looking at the profiles of the condos. It struck me that we may end up with a canyon of look-alike buildings, and wonder what went wrong.

Heritage elements, well-coordinated and consistent facade design, and a lack of protruding balconies make this a clear winner compared to what's around.

I’ll get some pictures up in the next few days, but we’ve had a great intro to living in the building. No major issues, good management so far, and the units were finished brilliantly. We also lucked out with one of the “top of the podium” balconies which has been fantastic.

Compared to what is around it this building actually looks pretty good.
