I wondered that two and I found and old obituary mentioning Anthony Dheensaw and another one mentioning Cleve and I didn't see any names in common so if they are related it is a very distant connection.

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers are asking for your help as we work to locate and identify a female suspect who stabbed a 71-year-old woman.
On Friday, March 13th, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Patrol officers received a report that a 71-year-old woman was stabbed once in the back while walking in the 900-block of Yates Street.
The suspect, an unidentified woman who was panhandling at the time, stabbed the victim after the victim declined two requests to provide money. At first, the victim believed that she was punched in the back, but then realized that she was bleeding, and drove herself to the hospital. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.
The unknown female suspect is described as a 20 to 25-year-old Indigenous woman, standing approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with a slim to medium build. The suspect has short black hair, a round face, and dark eyes. The suspect is missing her top front teeth.
The suspect wore a dark hoodie with the hood up, and all dark clothing. The suspect possibly wore a dark toque and had clothing covering her hands. The suspect was crying immediately prior to the assault.
Officers believe that the incident was witnessed by pedestrians in the area, and they are asking for help in identifying the suspect.
Officers are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the incident contact our non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654. If you see the suspect, please call 911. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Most of the current mayor/council don't seem to have the necessary reasoning skills to get to grips with this fairly simple case of cause and effect; so we can only hope that the balance of council will change before things get even worse

No bottle recycling going on, no one giving money to panhandlers. There will probably be some repercussions from that situation.

it's the block where The Market [on Yates] is
Exactly - a very high pedestrian traffic zone. This was a very brazen attack on a vulnerable individual.

That entire 3 or 4 block square is best avoided at all times.
It's a bloody dangerous slum, one devoid of a police presence.
I don't for the life of me know why people get sucked into thinking things are "OK" around that part of town simply because there are a bunch of snazzy new $850,000.00 condos popping up, or The Market on Yates, or London Drugs - when in fact the entire area is a bubbling war zone 24/7.
That somebody's granny can get knifed in the back in broad daylight just because she's walking down the street shouldn't really surprise anybody that's paid even the slightest attention to what's actually going on in the downtown core.
But hey, plastic bags, straws, statues, poets, City Family members, and a bunch of other "reaches" way beyond any City Council in Canada's mandate take precedent over maintaining a safe city ... you know ... a city where you don't get knifed in the back in the middle of the afternoon while walking down the street to mail a letter.

Why wouldn't there be a risk? The worst elements of the street population have been emboldened by the likes of the not-at-all-dumb Loveday and Isitt and their police fantasies, as well as a super-smart mayor who would likely just say this means we need more compassion.

As Victoria Watcher said, this is probably the multi-unit residential building in the 3000-block of Douglas Street where the incident occured.
Probably the PHS no barrier facility at 2915 Douglas
