They’ll want to keep them at room temperature for about an hour or two, though.

The Victoria Police Department has noticed some changes in trends since COVID-19 came to the Island.

While there’s been an overall drop in calls, said Chief Const. Del Manak, there’s a spike in certain types of issues, including break-ins at closed downtown businesses.

Break-ins quadruple in Vancouver as stores shut for COVID-19

https://bc.ctvnews.c...id-19-1.4868855

A security guard is now posted 24/7 outside the Lululemon store in downtown Vancouver, and the building is covered in plywood.

“Somebody was trying to get in," the guard told CTV News Vancouver, adding that it wasn't the first time.

Since the location shuttered to help stop the spread of COVID-19, there have been three attempts to break-in.

I have trouble figuring out the sort of person that would break into Lululemon - is there really a market for over priced trendy yogawear?   The people that would wear the stuff I do not see breaking in, people who would break in I do not see having a market for the clothes

^A backpack full of Lululemon is a thousand dollars retail. Sold on the secondary market at a steep discount it is still very valuable.

i think it's just that every piece is pretty high value.  even homeless people have girlfriends.

seriously though.  people sell stuff with tags attached on craigslist all the time.    there is a big market.  some people have a virtual showroom in their home. there is one i know of in broadmead.  hard to prosecute (no serial numbers) and i think the buyers know what's up.

Suspect Arrested In Daytime Robberies

Victoria, BC – One man is in custody after Patrol officers responded to a report of a robbery last week.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 26th, Patrol officers were called to the 400-block of Cook Street for a report that a man had robbed a business. Officers learned that the man entered the business, told a staff member that he had a weapon, and demanded cash. The man obtained money and then fled the area. No one was injured in the robbery.

Multiple officers attended to the area, and a VicPD K9 unit was deployed to search for the suspect. Despite the thorough search, the man remained outstanding at that time.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Patrol officers responded to a report of a similar robbery in the 2100-block of Quadra Street. The suspect was located and taken into custody. No one was physically injured in this second incident.

Our investigation into these incidents continues.

If you have information about these incidents and have not yet spoken to investigators, you are asked to call our non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

There are no businesses in the 400 block Cook but the 2100 block of Quadra is the Husky gas station.

Chief Manak Urges Community To Follow Social & Physical Distancing Orders After Officers Called To Multiple Gatherings

Victoria, BC – Chief Constable Del Manak is urging members of our Victoria and Esquimalt communities to continue to follow social and physical distancing orders from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry after officers were called to multiple gatherings over the weekend.

Officers were called to nine noise complaints, including several parties and other gatherings, as well as to a group at Saxe Point Park over the weekend. Officers spoke with some attendees about the risks that violating Dr. Henry’s orders present to those gathering, to their loved ones and to the wider community.

These gatherings also present additional, unnecessary risk of COVID-19 exposure to front-line officers responding to these calls.

“We need to do better,” Chief Del Manak said. “The first line of defense against COVID-19 is social and physical distancing. Please, think of the greater good. Think of our officers who are attending these calls. Think of the grocery clerks, the cleaners, the nurses, the doctors, the care workers and all the other front-line and essential service workers who cannot stay home, but who are putting themselves at risk for others. Please, stay home.”

The Province of B.C. is urging the public to stay home and practice social and physical distancing.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu, B.C. Premier John Horgan, B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix, B.C. Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth, and B.C. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, along with global health experts and world leaders, have all emphasized the vital need for physical and social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19. Globally, there have been over 750,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which have resulted in over 36,000 deaths.

Right now the biggest challenge to maintaining social distancing downtown, is keeping aggressive panhandlers from coming at you.

Why would criminals start thinking of "the greater good" now?

“In one of the [UVic] buildings, which was under renovations, the suspects stole a significant amount of copper piping,” said Deputy Chief Ray Bernoties. “The other building, the suspect used a pry tool to force a window from its hinges, accessed an office and stole a Macbook Pro computer.”

this should be pretty easy to track down.  pull the building permits around town and see who is doing a big plumbing job at their home.  go check their pipe supply.  find the suspect.  for the macbook check libraries and universities for the suspect studying.
