Yeah, no surprise there. I made the mistake of dropping in there to pick up some milk one evening - creepy dump that's never seen a janitor, and with 5 or 6 whacked out "patrons" standing dead still in the aisles .. shopping I guess?
Funny thing is, through this entire COVID thing, this place has never even dimmed the lights outside of their stated hours of 5:00am to midnight, 7 days a week.
Guess you gotta make hay while the makin's good, and the contraband is coming through the doors fast and furious.
One down. The vast majority of shoplifted goods wind up on other retailer shelves.

I bet a bag of coffee doesn't get you any quality drugs.
But the $1.00 the Mega Mart gives you for a pound of the finest stolen bean likely goes into the kitty needed to get your next days required amount of whatever gets you through the day.

🚔VicPD Strike Force Arrests Two, Seizes Stolen Property In ‘Fencing Operation’ Bust🚔
Victoria, BC – Strike Force officers arrested two people and seized stolen property after they executed a search warrant at a business in the Burnside Gorge neighbourhood this morning.
At approximately 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 3rd, Strike Force officers executed a search warrant at a business location in the 400-block of Gorge Road East. Strike Force’s investigation led them to believe that this business was involved in the buying and re-selling of stolen property. This is known as a “fencing operation”, in which the business acts a fence, or middleman, that takes in stolen property from thieves and re-sells it for profit. The existence of a “fencing operation” serves as a marketplace for stolen property to be bought and re-sold.
The Burnside Gorge neighbourhood has seen an increase in property crime over recent weeks. Strike Force, along with other VicPD resources, have been tasked with targeting this issue. By focusing on the business, Strike Force effectively disrupted a marketplace for stolen goods within the neighbourhood.
Strike Force officers searched the business and seized a number of stolen items. The recovered stolen property included alcohol, perfume, electronics, coffee and other items.
Strike Force officers arrested two people, a man and a woman, who were associated to the business.
Gurjit Purewal, a 50-year-old Victoria man, faces charges of trafficking in stolen property, possession of stolen property, and laundering the proceeds of crime.
Manjeet Purewal, a 41-year-old Victoria woman, faces charges of trafficking in stolen property, possession of stolen property, and laundering the proceeds of crime.
This was a coordinated investigation that was led by Strike Force. However, the investigation involved officers from Patrol, the Community Services Division, and Detectives from the Major Crime Unit.
VicPD’s Strike Force is a covert investigation and operations unit. Strike Force officers will continue to focus on property offenders within our community and they rely on tips from the public. If you have information about property crime offenders in our community, you can call the Strike Force line directly at (250) 995-7260.

It's the Mega-Mart convenience store, near the Tim Hortons. It was the scene of a mugging of an older lady, an incident witnessed by the female store owner.

murder suicide. it's unfortunately somewhat common. or at least statistically much more common that suicide pact.
Family say Salt Spring Island woman was ambushed and murdered by ex-husband
Jennifer Quesnel, 41, died Monday in what was described as an apparent murder-suicide
The Salt Spring Island woman killed Monday had just left her husband to start a new life when she was murdered by him in a planned ambush, say family. “She had finally made the choice to leave and she came and stayed with me,” brother Glenn Hamilton told CTV. When returning to her former home on a rural Salt Spring Island property to pick up some belongings, police told Jennifer's family that she was shot by husband John Quesnel, who subsequently turned the gun on himself.
this is common too. almost every break-up has some type of financial component. this guy's livelihood was taken and his wife was leaving.

do you think it’s the vast majority? I think most people fence it in the community or buy drugs with it.
I am referring to shoplifted goods. Stuff in packaging that a competitor can quickly resell at retail prices.

i still think most of that goes to people rather than re-sale. unless it's highly organized.

The parking lot was the scene of the McCallum murder back in the day...

I think that most people would be shocked if they knew where stolen and counterfeit products were being sold.

I have a good friend that was jumped in the parking lot and was severely beaten to the point of almost not making it. Always a sketchy visit to that Tim Hortons.

this is common too. almost every break-up has some type of financial component. this guy's livelihood was taken and his wife was leaving.
On Monday, Jennifer Quesnel returned to the family home with the intention of retrieving some items and attending to her horse, giving it feed and medication.
It was arranged that John Quesnel would leave the house overnight. “He agreed to stay at his other property for the night and not come home and leave her the house,” said John Jr.
“He was not supposed to be there,” said Fraser.
Jennifer Quesnel had spoken to the RCMP about an escort to the property, but decided her husband wouldn’t be a threat, said the family statement. “Additionally, she was reassured by the fact that all his firearms had previously been confiscated and his vehicle was not in the driveway.”
But on Monday morning, John Quesnel bought a gun from a friend who said he had “no idea this would happen,” said John Jr., who noted his father was “mentally unstable.”
John Jr. said according to police, John Quesnel was in the woods that evening and ambushed Jennifer Quesnel, shooting her twice before shooting himself.

File # 2020-9116
On June 4th 2020 the West Shore RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on Millstream Road in the Highlands after receiving information that firearms were being improperly stored at the residence and the man living there did not have a valid firearms license.
West Shore RCMP frontline officers along with the West Shore RCMP Drugs and Organized Crimes Unit successfully recovered a replica .45 calibre handgun, along with a sawed off shotgun and boxes of shotgun ammunition from the residence.

Safety was the main concern in this investigation as investigators found the firearm was not stored properly and there was information that children were coming and going from this residence. Police are still investigating this crime and firearm charges are expected to follow, said Cst. Cst. Kris Valentine, West Shore RCMP General Duty Investigator.

On June 2nd 2020, the West Shore RCMP received multiple calls from the public reporting a vehicle swerving into oncoming traffic on Sooke Road near Metchosin Road in Colwood.
West Shore RCMP frontline officers located the vehicle which had stopped at the intersection of Metchosin Road and Sooke Road at the light. Officers noted the driver of the vehicle was unconscious behind the wheel. Officers awoke the driver who was displaying symptoms consistent with being intoxicated by drugs.
The driver, identified as a 37 year old resident of Victoria, was arrested for impaired driving and drug trafficking. Police searched the driver and located individually packaged bags of Lysergic acid diethylamide (commonly known as LSD), as well as Cocaine. Police also obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and recovered over 350 grams of Methamphetamine.
The investigation is ongoing.
“Police want to thank the multiple callers who notified police of the dangerous driving behaviour they witnessed. These callers no doubt prevented a serious collision by calling police right away and without knowing it helped us catch a drug trafficker in the process,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.

Every breath you take and every move you makeThank goodness for the police.
Every bond you break, every step you take, I'll be watching you
Every single day and every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay, I'll be watching you
Oh, can't you see you belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take
Every move you make, and every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake, I'll be watching you
Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night, I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying, "Baby, baby, please"
Oh, can't you see you belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take
Every move you make and every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake, I'll be watching you
Every move you make, every step you take, I'll be watching you
I'll be watching you
