OBPD: “Shortly after 4:30pm on November 7, 2020, an Oak Bay resident, who lives near the 3000 block of Upper Terrace Road, reported a man knocked on the door of her home asking for “Steve” and claimed he was there to provide gutter services. The homeowner confirmed “Steve” does not reside at the address and gutter services had not been requested. The man left without incident. Patrols were made however the man was not located. (Oak Bay Police File 2020-3535). Oak Bay Police encourage residences to report suspicious activity they observe or experience at any time of the day or the night. Perhaps the man mentioned above looking for “Steve” simply had the wrong address, or perhaps he was creating an opportunity to get more familiar with the homeowners’ property and assets. Either way Oak Bay Police are pleased the resident contacted us and
reported the suspicious incident.“

4:30 PM is no time to start a gutter cleaning job, especially in a neighborhood with super high gutters. Way too dark.

Should be able to sneak in a quick pre-job estimate around that time?

If I reported all the suspicious activity I see... we had a break-in on the street guy nearby told me “that’s it I’m calling in anyone with a hoodie up”

Man Arrested After Unprovoked Assault With Weapon

Date: Thursday, November 12, 2020

File: 20-44835

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man yesterday afternoon after a report that he assaulted another person with a weapon.

Shortly before 2 p.m. yesterday Patrol officers were called to the 400-block of Swift Street for a report that a man struck another man repeatedly with a wooden stick. Officers attended and learned that the attack was unprovoked and that the suspect and the victim were unknown to one another. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.

The suspect left the scene prior to police arrival, but witnesses in the area provided officers with an excellent description. Patrol officers located the suspect a short distance away from the scene and took him into custody without incident.

The suspect was transported to cells and held for court. He faces recommended charges of assault with a weapon, two counts of breach of probation, and one count of breach of a release order.

Might be interesting to compare to Westshore RCMP as they're close. Or Sidney.

When I see Victoria higher than Saanich or Oak Bay I have a physical reaction.

Victoria has the highest caseload-per-officer for independent municipal departments, but most RCMP detachments in BC have higher or far higher caseloads. Victoria definitely has a high crime rate, though, even in comparison to RCMP jurisdictions.

Breach of probation and release order. On top of the assault.

How is this system working for public safety? Or justice? Or a return to normal society for the perpetrator?

The light from electric candles flickered on a quiet Langford cul-de-sac as friends and relatives gathered for a vigil in memory of Kerri Weber, the 55-year-old Langford woman allegedly killed by her husband last week.

The vigil opened the door for a frank discussion about domestic violence during the pandemic, as family members revealed that Weber was planning to leave her husband before her death.

Bracing against a chilly wind, family and friends surrounded 1214 McLeod Place, outside the home where Weber was found dead on Nov. 6, a day after the killing allegedly took place. Her husband, Ken Weber, 56, was arrested on Nov. 6 and has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with his wife’s death.

“Yes, there was domestic violence,” said Weber’s sister-in-law Karen Reilly, who lives in the West Shore. Reilly said an incident happened not long after the couple married in September 2019 that changed the dynamic of the relationship, leaving Kerri Weber to be “more caregiver than wife.”

“She expressed plans to me to leave the marriage if things did not improve, we think this is what may have happened last Thursday,” Reilly told those gathered. “If there’s a take-away from this, please check in with people, especially loved ones and friends and especially with the pandemic and mental-health issues. And don’t leave an abusive relationship on your own, seek help, talk to somebody.”

Ken Weber remains in police custody. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 19. The homicide is being investigated by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.

Reilly was married to Weber’s brother, also named Ken, who died at age 50 in 2013. Weber moved to the West Shore in October 2018 to live with Reilly, her children and her husband, Mike, who were also at the vigil.

🚔VicPD Strike Force Arrests Three, Seizes Drugs, Cash, & Loaded Handgun In Hidden Compartment Of Vehicle🚔

Victoria Police Strike Force units have taken drugs and a loaded handgun off our streets that started with a Friday the 13th traffic stop in front of the BC Legislature:

Victoria, BC – VicPD Strike Force officers, working with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), have arrested three people from Surrey and seized drugs, cash, and a loaded handgun which was found in the hidden compartment of a vehicle. The arrests and seizure are a part of the same investigation which recently yielded a kilogram of 90 percent concentration fentanyl, which could have supplied an estimated 495,000 lethal doses to our community.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. on Friday, November 13th, Strike Force officers, working with GVERT, stopped a vehicle at Belleville and Government streets. The three occupants of the vehicle had been identified by Strike Force as organized drug traffickers operating in Victoria. Strike Force officers arrested two men and one woman from Surrey who were inside the vehicle.

Strike Force officers searched the vehicle and located drugs, including fentanyl and cocaine, and a significant amount of cash. A Community Services Division (CSD) officer trained in locating hidden vehicle compartments assisted with the search. The officers located a hidden compartment behind the radio and temperature controls on the centre console of the vehicle. Within the compartment, officers located a loaded .45 calibre handgun. The firearm was easily accessible to occupants of the vehicle from within the hidden compartment.

Strike Force officers then executed search warrants on two suites associated to the suspects at a hotel in the 700-block of Douglas Street. Within each suite officers located evidence of a drug trafficking operation, including quantities of fentanyl, cocaine and cash.

This investigation is part of a larger, months-long project which Strike Force initiated in July to target organized crime groups trafficking drugs in Victoria and Esquimalt. In October, Strike Force arrested a separate suspect associated to organized drug trafficking in the 0-block of Dallas Road. During the arrest officers seized one kilogram of 90 percent concentration fentanyl. Typically, samples of fentanyl are found to contain on average 10 percent fentanyl. In 2019 only one sample in Canada tested above 75 percent. In 2020, seven samples across the country have tested above 75 percent.

As part of this project, Strike Force officers executed an additional search warrant on the afternoon of October 7th at a suite in a multi-unit residential building in the 700-block of Yates Street. Officers arrested the occupant of the suite for drug trafficking related offences and seized over $5,000 in cash, and quantities of cocaine and fentanyl with an estimated street value of approximately $55,000.

In total, Strike Force officers will be recommending several drug trafficking-related charges against two men and a woman from Surrey, and two men and a woman from Vancouver.
In total, the search of the vehicle and two hotel suites yielded nearly $60,000 in cash, cocaine and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $50,000, and the loaded .45 calibre handgun.

The concentration of this recently seized fentanyl has not been confirmed.

Photographs of the seized items are available below.
