no other media covered the CFAX discovery of the staff danger level handbook. it was gone from the media cycle in 2 days. nobody wants to embarrass the City.

although it does look like obee is a bit fed up. but with the mayor pushback he got on picnic point what are the chances he does that again? he can’t be far from retirement. he’s been working since at least 1972.

They didn’t cover it because they don’t like to/refuse to acknowledge other media exists. Covering that story would have required first sourcing the content to Stirling and CFAX.

I believe that also to be true.

anyway will the Metchosin kidnapper be arraigned in court tomorrow? no. that story is likely dead. we will never hear about it again. but that one police press release gave all the media outlets something to re-write.

The mayor took the time to criticize an editor over his personal opinions related to a failed experiment at Clover Point, while her city was facing revelations around a surging crime crisis. The public saw the rebuttal as a bit perplexing, in light of the challenges criminality poses in Victoria.

-Very dramatic. I'm surprised they didn't add a separate firearm charge for the "gun" below :)

Oak Bay police say a man was arrested for carrying prohibited items in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man was spotted riding a bicycle without a helmet or lights on just after midnight Sunday.

The man was eventually caught and taken into custody, at which point police uncovered several prohibited items on his person, including a "concealed 26-inch sword" that was hidden in the man's pants.

The man was arrested for the items found Sunday, and for two other outstanding warrants.

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

A: Very carefully.

Sounds like an abduction at gun point, or under threat of a gun being present? Am I reading that right?

I think so. remember police said the second interaction was a separate event. ie. they were called to a new location by someone.

I appear to have been wrong about it being a simple misunderstanding. 😡

Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers

Dear Suspect

On the date that these pictures were taken, you entered a bank in the 4000 block of Quadra and attempted to make a withdraw. Sadly, you must have forgotten your debit card as you decided that you were going to try and take the ATM instead.

You tried and tried to pry the ATM open, or remove it from the wall, but you were unable to successfully do this, and you left empty handed.

The one thing you did right this day, was leave us with some great images of you to share with our followers, who will ID you and tell us who you are.

See you very soon.

Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers

If you know who this suspect is and you want to tell us his name anonymously, please call 1-800-222-8477. You may also submit a tip online at www.victoriacrimestoppers.ca.

A five year old child is the latest victim of violence in downtown Victoria.

Suspect, Witnesses Sought After Random Assault On Five-Year-Old Boy

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers are seeking a suspect and asking for additional information after an unknown woman randomly assaulted a five-year-old boy in downtown Victoria yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 11:20 a.m. on Monday, August 16th, a woman and her three children were walking in the 1700-block of Government Street when they encountered an unknown woman who struck one of the children in the face without provocation. The mother and her children quickly left the area to a safe location and reported the incident to police. Officers attended the scene and searched the area. However, the suspect was not located.

The victim, a five-year-old boy, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident. The incident occurred on his fifth birthday.

The suspect is described as a 30 to 40-year-old Caucasian woman with shoulder-length brownish-blonde hair. The woman stood approximately five feet, six inches tall, with a slim build. She wore light-coloured blue jeans, carried a brown leather bag, and was reported to appear disheveled. The suspect was also reported to be agitated at the time of the incident. She was yelling in the street, and was suspected to be intoxicated by drugs.

This file remains under investigation.

If you have any information about this incident, please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

I remember my 5th birthday.  I wasn't being assaulted.

What a sad state Victoria has become.

...the most concrete action we’ve taken is that we’ve formed a Priority One Task Force to deal with the work for the most chronically homeless, mentally ill and addicted … if we got them housing, a lot of the disturbances that we see on the streets would disappear...
