Homicide investigators say a 71-year-old father, 58-year-old mother, and two adult children aged 23 and 21 were found dead in a home on Garden City Road this week.
Police have now confirmed this appears to be a murder-suicide, though it's unclear who the shooter was. Investigators have not yet determined a motive.
That’s a bit of a head-scratcher. I could accept that they have determined murder-suicide, but not that they have determined that while still being unclear on who the murder person is.
That’s hard to reconcile.
For example. A good indication who the murdering person is is that they are often the person with the least number of gunshot wounds and are often close to where the gun ended.
Also: statistics would rarely suggest the mother did the murdering here.
In order of probability I’d go:
Male adult child
Father
Female adult child
Mother
Work backwards from there and you might have this case wrapped up before the weekend.

Police say that the incident took place just after 10:30 a.m. on January 28 in the 200-block of Needham Street in Nanaimo. At the same time, a neighbor's surveillance camera captured a silver SUV pull up to the house, and three men exit the vehicle, wearing masks.
“I think they were here to collect something or something of that nature because there were three guys come out of that vehicle with masks… and you could tell they were up to something nasty,” said neighbour Rick Grant.

The masks were probably just the latest edict from the PHO.

CHEK got the surveillance video - here are the boys leaving their vehicle...it was stated that a child usually lives at the residence and one of the neighbours said (think they meant an adult) that "they shot her, point blank range" in plain view. Interesting that the neighbours were willing to comment on camera for the record, with the bad guys at large. Guess they are from a lower criminal strata than the other organisation that tends to run things in the Nanaimo area...

West Shore RCMP officers are investigating after two women reported that a man had exposed himself to them during two separate incidents in Langford.
On January 27, 2022, a woman contacted police to report a male had exposed his genitals to her at around 6:45 a.m. while she was waiting for a bus in the 2600 block of Sooke Rd in Langford. The male suspect then ran away towards the Galloping Goose trail.
West Shore RCMP received another report, from another woman, who stated an unknown man had exposed his genitals to her while walking on Luxton Rd near Marwood Ave at around 6:50 a.m. that same day.
In both instances, the suspect was described as follow;
* Caucasian male
* Late 20’s to early 30’s
* Slim build
* Shoulder length blonde hair
* Black jacket
* Wearing a light bathrobe under the jacket or skirt
The initial challenge investigators faced was that these incidents were reported later in the morning which hindered our ability to attend the area right away to locate the suspect , states Cpl. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the West Shore RCMP. We need to identify this suspect as soon as possible to prevent any further escalation in his deviant behaviour .
West Shore RCMP are encouraging anyone who may have been travelling in those areas around those times to review their personal dash camera videos which may have captured the suspect. Investigators would also like to speak with anyone who may have been a victim or witness to similar incidents in the area to report it to the police immediately.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.

So let’s see, two hours later he was released with some conditions and a promise to appear. Just like last time. Have I got that right?

A man serving a life sentence for the second-degree murder of a Victoria teenager in June 2010 has been denied full parole.
At a recent video hearing, the Parole Board of Canada found Corey Barry is at moderate to high risk to reoffend and, if released, would present an undue risk to society.
Corey BARRY
Barry, 50, stabbed 15-year-old Justin Wendland in the heart and the chest in broad daylight on Douglas Street, then ran to the police station and told officers he was responsible for the stabbing. At sentencing, the judge found Barry intended to cause bodily harm to the young victim that would likely cause his death. He found Barry’s moral culpability to be high.
The board found that Barry has a criminal history including drug offences, robbery and assault. In the past, he reoffended while serving a jail sentence in the community and struggled to abide by court conditions. He has been violent toward his partners and has been assessed as a high risk for intimate partner violence.
Barry has applied for a transfer to a minimum security institution, a move supported by this case management team, the board noted in its decision. His behaviour in prison is described as positive. Barry is respectful of staff and other offenders and tends to keep to himself. He is president of the Alcoholics Anonymous group in the prison.
“Despite the positive factors … the board does not lose sight of the nature and gravity of the offence that took the life of a young man. Your actions were unpredictable and demonstrated you are capable of inflicting fatal violence. It was clear to the board from the heartrending victim impact statements that the victim’s family continues to suffer from the harm caused by your actions.”

I guess it's part of living in a socially progressive society ... but one has to wonder why on earth this kind of parole board hearing is even required.
The guy randomly walked up to a young kid waiting for a bus in front of the T/C building and intentionally murdered him by stabbing him in the chest multiple times ... he gave no motive, and gave no reason.
This kind of crime shouldn't even be considered for parole, and as the Board obviously noted ... he killed a kid once, and it's highly likely he'd do it again.
Sometimes it really seems that the "innocent until proven guilty" and "give him another chance" mindset is completely inappropriate, and may require a major reconstruction in Canada.

An alarming number of young people on Vancouver Island and from across Canada are the victims of human trafficking. Tess van Straaten takes a look at the growing problem and how Crime Stoppers is hoping to help.
For the last eight years, Mia Golden’s been trying to help young people in Greater Victoria who are the victims of human trafficking.
Golden says human trafficking of young people of all genders — both from Vancouver Island and elsewhere in Canada — is actually quite common.
“It can be done via local sites like Sugar Daddy, social media sites, dating apps — it’s quite alarming,” she says.
And sadly, the numbers are only getting higher.

That article is a bit light on details.
There is no doubt that lots of youngsters are on OnlyFans etc. Making money. And yes sometimes/often for their handlers/pimps.
