^ was that yellow handled knife a box cutter or a regular lock blade modified to hold a razor? Scary stuff. Imagine having someone swing a handled razor blade at you and connecting. You’d feel the warm blood before you felt the cut.
I’ve never seen a razor blade like that, but it’s pretty scary looking, whatever it is.

Is a journalist supposed to deny something exists, because she herself hasn’t seen it? Sounds like they should investigate and get to the bottom of this.
She is a 'journalist' for the CD which only two days ago published incomplete statistics which attempted to portray violent crime as declining. Is anyone surprised that she is now doubling down?!
Downtown crime is the #1 concern for voters. Incumbents such as MA, should she decide to run for Mayor, would be very exposed on this issue as they are perceived to have advocated to defund the police, promoted the homeless crisis in the core and discouraged the pursuit of "survival crimes".

...Downtown crime is the #1 concern for voters.
Tied with frivolous, dogma-driven spending and increasing taxation.

Police investigating ‘stranger’ assault in Oak Bay
May 14, 2022
Police in Oak Bay are investigating what they call a “stranger” assault that took place earlier this week - in the area of Crescent Road near Harling Point at around 9 p.m. on May 10.
The suspect is described as a 5-foot-8 tall clean shaven Caucasian male with short brown hair, who appeared to be in his late 20s. At the time of the incident, police say he was wearing pants and a dark puffy jacket, possibly an Arc’ Teryx brand.

According to a FB post by the victim, it was a sexual assault. In the victim's words, it was rape. A tad more serious than they make it sound.
Why are the cops downplaying it?
And I'm guessing Saanich or Victoria cops will have to do any true investigating of the incident.

Does anyone know for a fact that it was a rape?

Of course nobody knows for sure right now. We only have a partial one side of the story.Does anyone know for a fact that it was a rape?
But of course police could be more forthcoming.
Police don’t even say if it took place outdoors or in or near a home. 9pm is a strange time.

No study needed — just match sentence to repeat offender’s record David Eby, B.C. attorney general and minister responsible for housing, says his government will undertake an investigation into the causes of criminal recidivism, which Lawrie McFarlane says is a bit like the CEO of a flight school asking what an airplane is.
When B.C.’s Urban Mayors’ Caucus asked provincial Attorney General David Eby for help in dealing with the problem of repeat offenders, Eby himself became a repeat offender.
It began with Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps, co-chair of the caucus, drawing Eby’s attention to a list of 10 chronic offenders in her city, who alone have had 1,385 run-ins with local police over the past two years.
In one instance, a repeat offender in the capital region generated 284 police incidents within a 24-month period, was charged 55 times, and registered 22 separate convictions.
The mayors put this steadily worsening situation down to a form of “catch and release” practised by our justice system.
Eby’s first offence was to duck responsibility. He noted that some of these repeat offenders have drugaddiction problems or mental-health issues. He urged that what’s needed is more attention to treatment options rather than incarceration. Let the health-care system sort things out.
Yet while there is some truth in that, it by no means explains the sheer dimensions of the problem.

When asked about the incidents, one small downtown business owner said that he hasn’t seen any trouble-making groups of youth, while a worker at a convenience store on the same block said she regularly calls police for large groups of teens that steal from the store and in some cases, get violent.

Odd that the reporter does not name these businesses. Likely they are afraid to be on record.
