Free street drugs should solve this.

Officers then learned that the man had robbed and assaulted three people at knifepoint, and possibly stabbed a fourth, all within a short period of time.

If this had been in the US, he'd be dead.

It’s unclear if he’s already back out on the streets.

All we know for sure is that he can't enter City Hall without getting being buzzed in now. Safety is only a concern for those inside that building.

Probably trying to keep the police out

Council was already doing that through the budgeting process.

That was where I got the “joke”.

I’d like to see Canada change the mandate on sentencing . Chronic reoffenders should be at the level that we are seeking punishment as well as rehabilitation. Obviously rehabilitation isn’t working for some time to try something else .

With the number of re-offenders in the Canadian legal (not justice) system, I think it's fair to say that "rehabilitation" is a mostly failed policy.

...Armed Suspect In Multiple Knifepoint Robberies Arrested After Foot Chase

Victoria, BC – An armed man who randomly robbed and assaulted multiple people at knifepoint was taken into custody after being tackled by a Patrol officer Friday night.

At approximately 11:30 pm on Friday, March 17, multiple people called 911 to report that a man armed with a knife was chasing people downtown. Callers reported that at least one person had been injured. Every available officer responded to the area and the first officer to arrive located the man near the intersection of Yates and Vancouver streets....

Are any of the local media outlets reporting on this?

Too bad he's not dead.

You put a knife to the throat of a total stranger, and demand money?

This guy does, and still does deserve to die.  It's unfortunate nobody shot him dead.

Yes.  And others.  Vancouver Sun:

Several hurt in Victoria knife rampage

The man stabbed at least one person, slashed another, robbed at least two people and sparked a car crash involving two police vehicles and a taxi on Friday.

Your Victoria council denied councillor Stephen Hammond’s motion to ask his peers to draft a letter asking the province to step up security at low barrier housing buildings, to protect nearby residents.

He got shut down, and wasn’t allowed to talk.

Unknown.  I don't think CD does lots of crime reporting.

I suppose it's not necessary when your style of reporting is criminal itself.
