"Everything to play for" as Pacific FC closes out against Forge FC

Final game of regular season kicks off at 1 p.m. at Starlight Stadium

It is soccer tradition, from the World Cup down to club, that games on the final day of pool or league play start concurrently. That is so teams looking at advancement or promotion, or facing elimination or relegation, don’t have pre-knowledge of relevant scores in other games.

The Canadian Premier League regular season concludes today with all games beginning at 1 p.m. PT, including Pacific FC’s crucial match-up against Forge FC at Starlight Stadium.

There will be a lot of scoreboard watching as the 90 minutes tick down across the country as two races — for second place and for the fifth and final playoff berth — are still in play.

“It adds that excitement to the final day and is great for the league and the fans,” PFC head coach James Merriman said in his pre-game national Zoom news conference.

“Days like this are going to grow the game and the league. You see it in the Premier League, and [other] leagues with promotion/relegation, and it gets everybody excited about the outcome of the day.”

Very few in the stands in Langford.    Not good.

1-0 Pacific, 10 minutes left.

It was pouring in Langford today, so would not be fun to be in those stands.

I think they make the playoffs on a 1-0 win.

Want-to-be soccer stars take note: the Pacific Football Club is set to host its first-ever tryout to give members of the public a chance to play professionally.

Open to male players over 16 (Canadians, non-Canadian citizens and permanent residents), the trials will take place over three days, from Wednesday, Nov. 13 to Friday, Nov. 15, at Goudy Field and Starlight Stadium in Langford. Registration costs $330, plus tax.

On the first two days of the tryouts, Pacific FC’s coaching staff will evaluate participants' performance with a series of rigorous training sessions and games. A talented few will be selected to take part in a showcase match on Friday. Those who sufficiently impress the club's coaches may snag a spot in Pacific FC's pre-season training camp and a professional contract.

As always, we thank the City of Langford for providing our venue of Starlight Stadium and for working alongside us to connect with our community members and support local causes. We are already looking forward to welcoming you to Starlight next spring for our opening day.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for continuing to support our club and for being part of the Pacific FC family. Your dedication to the work that we do both on and off the pitch keeps us moving forward. Collectively we Tridents have more brilliant matches in front of us at Starlight Stadium and a shared energy to put into promoting wellness and equity in our community for youth and beyond.

The Vancouver Whitecaps have loaned up-and-coming goalkeeper Max Anchor to Canadian Premier League side Pacific FC through the 2025 season.

The ‘Caps announced the move Friday with sporting director Axel Schuster saying in a release that it’s “an excellent opportunity” for Anchor to “push himself in a new environment as he progresses to the next steps in his career.”

The 20-year-old netminder from Burnaby, B.C., came up through the Whitecaps academy and signed a pre-contract with the Major Leauge Soccer club as a homegrown player in May 2022.

He was just 17 when he made his first MLS start on May 5, 2022, while on a short-term call-up after health and safety protocols forced Vancouver’s other goalkeepers to the sidelines.
