While I think the b/w panel motif works quite well at 750 Pandora, at nearly twice the height, and with little variation for most of its elevation, HP-2 is going to be dull and monotonous.

The Hudson Mews had some pretty cheap units facing the soon-to-be construction site. I hope the tenants were aware of why they got a deal...

It was sad to learn that "Busy in the Hole" had to cancel their appearance at the Tinto Rocks Festival this year.

Hudson Place Two's construction start marks the final phase of The Hudson District.
The first phase, the restoration of the HBC department store, was completed in 2009.
Construction starts on 23-storey Blanshard Street rental tower; marks final phase of downtown's Hudson District

I'm taking no joy from this one. The revised version is such a disappointing design. What were we talking about in the Oak Street thread? How the authorities don't allow things to play out along their natural course?

I agree. When completed, all this tower is going to do is block my view of the far superior HP-1. I am not sure if it's Townline, the CoV or a combination of the two, but the ball has really been dropped on this one.

Although Merrick's images were probably massing studies rather than actual renderings, it would have been nice to see those sort of angles. This final piece of the Hudson project is pretty dull.
Nparker, you called the initial design dull.
I think you just dislike everything.

That's a really unfair assessment.
I like HP-1 and I said as much above. I like 989 Johnson. I like 1515 Douglas/750 Pandora. I like the Janion. I liked the 2012 designs for Northern Junk. I like what's happening at Customs House. I like the proposals for Harris Green (although much too early to tell how those will turn out). I like 1400 Quadra. I like much of the design of the "slanty shanty" at Vancouver and Johnson. There are certainly more, but I think I have made my point.
Just because I don't fawn over every project that gets built doesn't mean I dislike everything.
And yes, the initial plans for HP-2 were less than inspiring when compared to HP-1, but the revisions have not been an improvement. I think a project in such a high profile location - perhaps even more prominent than HP-1 - should have had much more of a "wow factor" and this proposal simply does not.

I don't know what's more incredible...that it's been 14 years since initial rumblings of this development or Nparker's slow progression to grumpy ol Victoria taxpayer in that 14 years.

To be fair, I have been a grumpy old Victoria taxpayer for much longer than 14 years.

...if Townline is unsucesful in bringing it down, I hope the BIG ONE hits and does the job for us.
One thing's for sure: nobody could ever accuse Nparker of not being hopeful for the future.
Methinks we should make a distinction between disliking-by-default and offering critical assessments (regardless of whether we like or dislike, or neither). The former is like a relentless beating with a sledgehammer; the latter is like a conversation over coffee. Sledgehammer beatings don't leave very much space for point/counterpoint, quiet reflection, & evolution of opinions.
The first design for HP2 wasn't what I was expecting. I warmed up to it later. But it was way better than the revised design.
