Staff probably don't have much choice but to approve projects that align with Council's dogma.
Or you simply hire people that subscribe to your experimental ideology and let them run with it

Staff didn’t even consult with council on this decision. They posited no recommendation, they just signed off on it as though it’s a business permit or a parking ticket voucher. T-J was clearly not impressed and neither was the chief.

So when we say "Staff"....are we really saying the City Manager? If so, is this an ideological placement with the approval to carry out activism?

Didn't formally consult, at least. Staff likely knew another anti-police message would have a viagra-like effect on certain influential councilors. Just as they knew it would upset CTJ, AHA and most people.
C'mon. This is just my opinion but I think that the chances that the City Manager made a decision and then made public statement without the full approval of the Mayor is zero.
What this does however is give the Mayor cover to tell both Manak and the hate group that she is on their side(s) and sidesteps any discussion with the other members of council.

Survey seeks input on racism in Greater VictoriaConfidential answers to inform work with immigrants and marginalized people
Posting this here as I think a lot of the racism issues surfacing in Victoria are as a direct result of the actions of this council.
I urge everyone to fill out the survey otherwise we will see a skewed survey which will be weaponized and used as justification for future actions ie defunding police and all that dangerous ideological bs that spews out of Together Victoria

Chek News reports that police are looking for the guy who ‘vandalized’ the mural this morning. I hope if they find him they give him a medal.

They is such a poorly designed survey. Can tell exactly what they are trying to gather. Ugh.https://www.saanichn...qh1E81A-y8jfl-c

Yup, total agenda at play. I submitted a comment asking what the definition of racism is in relation to this survey...because it could be anything from hurt feelings to a look and if you are a woke POC then you'd immediately consider it racism instead of the person thinking you're an idiot for jaywalking...

with how much time city council spent talking about the mural and the ACAB written within the letter, i'd be highly suspect if they said they had no idea what it was being replaced with.. someone had to have known, and i would not be surprised one bit if helps knew what it was being replaced with since it was a hot topic issue over multiple sessions

Emails sent to several city councillors for comment about the vandalism Saturday did not receive replies, but the City of Victoria released a statement to the Times Colonist, saying it does not condone such actions and calling on residents “to respect public art.”
A representative for the Victoria Police Department declined to comment on the events of Saturday.
However, in a statement Friday released through his personal Twitter account, Police Chief Del Manak called the suggestion that the city acted under influence from police to have the acronym removed “inaccurate, misinformed and disrespectful.”
In an interview with the Times Colonist on Saturday, mural organizer Charity Williams lambasted Manak for his tweet, suggesting it was incendiary.
“The motivation [for the vandalism] came from Chief Del Manak’s statement,” Williams said. “He knew what he was doing when he made that divisive statement. As soon as I read it, I knew there was going to be violence in this way, and there was — the day after.”

i would say to the police: don't put out a press release on a crime then refuse further comment on it. especially this one that you deliberately publicized in record speed in order to elicit a strong online reaction in your favour.
to councillors: stand up and say something - for or against. apart from CTJ where do all the other councillors stand?
i say this to my spell checker: are you sure there is not two "l"s in councillor?

Code of Conduct policies, City staff, Council/Mayor and Police - everyone is going to be whipping them out and official complaints lodged and so on. Might cost us a few more $'s this mural.

Either is acceptable. Which is the problem with spellcheck; it gives definitive, final answers to nuanced language. Like how it says "labour" is wrong.

This is like if someone got arrested and called the cop a sonofab!tch and a tribunal was immediately convened to examine the cop's matriarchal lineage and whether the officer's mother was indeed a woman of loose morals.
The mural creators had a window to turn this into a positive learning moment for all but squandered it and somehow made things worse. They've painted themselves into a corner, so to speak, and in the effort to win this battle have strayed from the positive message of healing and reconciliation the mural was intended to represent.

If spray painting is "violence" then I see a great deal of violence every day on buildings all over the city.
