Because it is Helps and we know what her ideas become.

Backroom deals and reality.

Maybe so but this is what Ms Helps claimed and the media picked it up

RJAG Oslo's intent is to be completely car free in the downtown core or City Centre by 2020 not last weekend...  It's a process :)  Looks like within a half mile of the centre people will be walking or riding.  Loss of 700 parking stalls.  There are obviously people that are not interested in the change as well..

1/2 mile here from say Douglas at Yates takes us to Shutters in VicWest, just into Beacon Hill Park to the south, half a block past Cook St to the east and to Queens Ave to the north...

^ I think what folks here are objecting to is the Mayor's cursory reading of a blog or supporter email, and then stating as fact things that she hasn't made any effort to validate.

What do mean by "validate"? What was stated as "fact"?

Oslo is doing merely what Victoria and countless cities around the world are doing--sacrificing a certain amount of parking for other uses.

It's true, it's happening in many places.  Similar arguments against but its still being done I or at least considered.

Stating that all cars are banned in Oslo is a long way from saying that private vehicles are being restricted starting in 2020.

And she said that...exactly nowhere.

But thanks for participating.

The CoV is making moves to give 16 year olds and permanent residents the right to vote in future municipal elections.

Province has put the brakes on that as it is a provincial issue as they over see municipal politics.

She reposted this guys tweet that is inaccurate and then milked it to get press time and create a controversy and stress instead of disclosing that this tweet is inaccurate and clarifying what it is that Oslo is doing....she milked it for the attention

MT @MikeHudemaNorway is banning cars from the centre of Oslo. Parking spaces are to be replaced with flower beds. 60km of cycle lanes are being built. We have solutions to the #climate crisis. Let's implement them. #sustainability #greencities

Since younger people tend to vote left then that makes sense for the current Mayor and council.

Somehow Geoff Young managed to get elected and the others on council want to ensure that never happens again.

I'm perfectly happy with PRs having the right to vote.  I'd love to vote this council out.

As for banning cars from downtown - what am I supposed to carry my canvas reusable bags in when I go shopping?

i think if you want your downtown devoid of hardware stores food stores and big box stores you ban cars. we are quite successful on that front already. where would John travolta work now in Saturday night fever. note he did walk to work in the film.

Watched some clip about one reusable bag would have to be used for 10 years to conteract the environmental impact its production had on the planet.

It was a CTV segment, I just can't find it again.
