Ah geez, that’s not good. Could we see a bunch of feral chickens as a result of this? There’s a place down in the US that has feral chickens.
Highway reopened now.
Thank a trucker.
Anyway, is this how chicken nuggets were invented?

I heard it was a chicken truck. Chickens are spread everywhere. (I wonder if this will delay the opening of Lee's in Esquimalt?)
Lee's I'm okay with a delay, Mary Brown's not so much.....

The Ministry of Transportation has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to engineering and design firms for the purpose of creating a new highway interchange at the Trans Canada Highway's Shawnigan Lake Road exit along the Malahat.
The ministry describes the project as an "[improvement] of safety by eliminating the existing left turn movements from Shawnigan Lake Road to Highway 1" through the provision of "an interchange with full movement access to both sides of Highway 1," and the creation of a "Mobility Hub" to "expand the transit options in the area." The 'hub' will include a pedestrian crossing at Whittaker Road north of Shawnigan Lake Road.
There will be four key scope components of the project:
1) A grade separated alignment for crossing Highway 1;
2) An extension of the existing Whittaker Road
3) An extension and upgrade of the existing Holker Place
4) A Mobility Hub with pedestrian bridge crossing at the Whittaker Road intersection with Highway 1
The province expects to select its preferred consultant for the work by January of 2023. Detailed design work is expected to complete by spring of 2024, although that timeline may change.
Construction would follow at some point thereafter.

Tailgating should come with fairly severe consequences. It’s the one type of accident-maker that you literally can control from ever happening. And yet…
Malahat police are far more concerned with catching speeders than tailgaters.

RARE OCEAN VIEW 400 acre property with Trans Canada highway frontage at the intersection of the south Shawnigan Lake Rd turnoff & TC Hwy 1. The former E&N Rail line & hydro lines accessed off Okotoks Rd run through the property. CVRD land is 360.4 acres zoned RUR-1 & CRD land is 39.6 zoned GB-2. The seller has indicated there is 100 million tonnes of rock. The upper portion of the property neighbours ocean view estates on 2.5 acre to 5 acre parcels. The lower portion borders light industrial & TC Hwy 1. The property spans from the south corner of Shawnigan Lake Rd & TC Hwy, south along a portion of TC Hwy 1, behind Okotoks Road; behind Malahat Mountain Meadows RV Park up to the end of Finlayson View Place in Goldstream Heights. There is an access road through a former gravel pit off Stebbings Rd (fenced road on lower portion off Stebbings) where a legal right of way will be registered for road access and another access point off Finlayson View Place. A small portion of the property is the NW corner of south Shawnigan Lake Rd & TC Hwy intersection. The seller has advised there is a 100 million tonnes of rock on the property . The property is located 15 minutes North of Langford and the gateway to Victoria. With careful planning and mixed rezoning in partnership with the CVRD and CRD, this property could set the stage for a fabulous multi-purpose, functional development catering to the needs of the community, the Victoria /Shawnigan /Malahat /Mill Bay and Vancouver Island residents.
A parcel of this size could provide much needed industrial, commercial, residential and recreational development; or potentially provide a secondary road access to Victoria and the Sooke Parkway.
All interested parties must do their own due diligence regarding their intended use. Information package available.
