Rising use of Malahat ‘shortcut’ infuriating rural residents
Finlayson Arm Road ‘cow trail’ can’t deal with traffic volume, say residents
https://www.campbell..._medium=twitter
While many will be excitedly jumping in their cars to get away for the long weekend, Steve Drane and Ross Munro are quietly dreading it.
The pair live just off Finlayson Arm Road, a twisty, narrow, bumpy road that winds through Goldstream Provincial Park up to Millstream Road in the Highlands. For a long stretch near where Drane and Munro live, the road is barely one-lane wide.
“Basically, it’s a paved cow trail,” said Munro.
While usually quiet, this long weekend Munro is expecting thousands of cars to clog up the road. He’s spent the past three Fridays counting cars with a clicker, seeing more than 2,000 pass in five hours on July 28, and is expecting it to be even busier this weekend as drivers look to beat the Malahat traffic by using Finlayson Arm as a shortcut.

Sounds like a Mike K. kind of guy. Maybe he can lend Mike the clicker to count liquor places downtown.

Maybe that means the warnings worked.

Maybe that means the warnings worked.
That's entirely possible.

Google maps recommended that route to me back in early July. I just laughed and waited through the 30 min hwy 1 delay instead.
Traffic jams on winding, narrow Finlayson Arm Road thanks to GPS algorithms guiding drivers

The City of Langford is pleading with Google to stop directing vehicles down the small, winding Finlayson Arm Road when traffic gets busy.
The issue seems to arise when traffic backs up along the Trans-Canada Highway heading into Goldstream Park, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays.

They say the increase in traffic leads to safety issues.
The city says it has issued multiple requests to Google to stop sending people down Finlayson Arm Road, and the municipality is asking anyone else concerned to send similar requests to Google to elevate the priority of the complaints.

Not sure what to make of that story. It does not say if Google responded to the requests. I'm also not sure if Google should agree.
