This is definitely going in the wrong direction here, Does anyone know the island health numbers? and we have not even started to get the long weekend impact. At the least we need to consider indoor masking.

I'm not so worried bout cases rising, more so with hospitalizations.  With those numbers I'd like to see the vaxxed vs unvaxxed ratio before we start talking about masks and other restrictions.  If it's the 95+% unvaxxed going then why shut things down.  If the vaccines are an actually solution for keeping people out of hospitals and thy only get a little sick then we are good...  No shaming, no making people do anything they don't want to.  12 new cases on the island yesterday...  1 in the hospital...  We are good at this point.

One in every 2,000 Floridians are hospitalized with COVID.

Congratulations, Republicans!

LA City Council weighs requiring vaccine proof at restaurants, theaters, other indoor establishments

The proposal is similar to New York’s policy, but it would be more restrictive with the inclusion of retail establishments, potentially limiting access to some basic necessities. The New York policy restricts access only to more entertainment-oriented venues such as indoor restaurants, fitness centers and theaters.

The U.S. is considering a plan to require all foreign visitors to be vaccinated for the coronavirus, according to a White House official.

The potential move comes amid a surge in Covid-19 cases causes by the highly infectious delta variant; officials expect infections to continue to rise among the unvaccinated population in the coming weeks.

Interagency working groups have been developing a plan for international travel, which they intend to roll out once borders have been reopened. The plan would include a phased approach that will mean, with a few exceptions, foreigners traveling to the U.S. would have to be fully vaccinated, the official added.

The timing of the roll-out was unclear. Reuters first reported on deliberations over the plan.

Our transparency wrt covid data is so bad.

How hard would it be to share % of vaxed vs. unvaxed among cases and hospitalized/icu? These would be interesting data.

They have more than enough data, you are just not being told because the story doesn’t match the narrative.

The Delta variant was responsible for all new COVID-19 cases in Island Health from July 11 to 24, data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control shows.

Reports attribute all 44 new cases in Island Health during those two weeks to the highly infectious variant, although the Centre for Disease Control says that could change as more samples are sequenced.

Do we know how many infected people had been vaccinated with either one or two shots of vaccine and with which vaccines? How many in hospital are vaccinated. Are the media even asking these questions?

i'm seeing some studies now there the amount of vaccinated vs. non-vaccinated is approaching parity in hospitals.

this (July 26th) does NOT cut it:

90% of Canada’s COVID-19 cases are among unvaccinated, feds say

“Since the start of the vaccination campaign on December 14, 2020, the majority (89.8 per cent) of cases being reported to PHAC were among those who were unvaccinated,” the country’s latest epidemiology report said.

https://globalnews.c...s-unvaccinated/

where are the current data?

Delta is essentially a whole new disease. We should not be surprised.

Get vaccinated, wear a mask in public, wash your hands, and continue to socially distance in areas where folks normally gather in close proximity.

Delta will kill the unvaccinated far, far quicker than any of the original couple of strains would have ... and then you'll be dead.

It's all so simple ... yet so many folks continue to pretend it's all so very difficult, a hoax, political in nature, or some other ridiculous concept related to what is, in reality, a simple global pandemic that will only be overcome quickly through mass vaccination.

"Yes" ... herd immunity will eventually (presumably) beat back the case numbers, but it's likely another couple of million people around the world will die by taking that route.

Folks speak these days about "returning to normal" ... but (IMO) that's not going to happen for another two or three years at the earliest. Meanwhile, everybody needs to continue to listen to medical doctors ... not politicians.

here is a report from ontario but it's only current to july 24th.  look at these two lines coming together.

this is CASES not hospitalizations.   and many cases might be being caught by asymptomatic testing being required by employers or institutions

But random strangers giving incorrect advice on the Internet is ok?

You’re off base on Delta. Science has not concluded “Delta will kill the unvaccinated far, far quicker than any of the original couple of strains would have,” nor are vaccinated people protected against it with the current vaccines.

july 29:

ABC News contacted 50 hospitals in 17 states, and asked them to share data on their ICU wards' current COVID-19 patients, including their vaccination status. In the surveyed hospitals, ABC News found that the overwhelming majority of COVID-19 patients currently being treated in ICUs were unvaccinated.

Of the 271 total COVID patients in the surveyed ICUs, 255 patients, or approximately 94%, were unvaccinated against COVID-19 in ABC News' snapshot in time.

Further, of the 16 vaccinated individuals receiving care in the ICU, almost all suffered from comorbidities and other health problems, such as cancer or weakened immune systems. ABC News only heard of one otherwise healthy and fully vaccinated individual, with no reported underlying conditions, who was in the ICU.

they polled 50 hospitals but only found 16 people in ICU?

It might be that most Covid patients go in a special isolated ward but if their condition gets really bad it's off to ICU.
