It would help if mass media, stakeholders, politicians and pundits would remind us of this, but they use science like they use statistics.

This will never go away, just like opinions of the masses....  This is human nature to analyze and figure out...

Esquimalt and Central Saanich have become the latest Greater Victoria authorities to require staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Township of Esquimalt and District of Central Saanich employees will need to show proof that they’ve been fully vaccinated by Dec. 20.

Both the Capital Regional District and the District of Saanich are requiring their employees to have their two doses by Dec. 13.

With the first semester of the new academic year nearly half over, several of B.C.’s leading universities have no coherent vaccine policies in place.

At the University of Victoria, staff and students are required to self-declare whether they have had the COVID vaccine, and an internal unit is randomly auditing these declarations.

But while management has threatened disciplinary actions for anyone found to have made a false declaration, or none at all, many staff and students feel this offers insufficient protection now that in-person classes have resumed.

At the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, the process is even more sketchy.

As at UVic, everyone on campus is asked to self-declare whether they have been vaccinated, but neither school takes steps to verify these declarations. Some professors have submitted visibly false declarations to see what would happen. Nothing happened.

As became common in many Asian countries after SARS, I'll be wearing my mask long after any "official" mandate is brought forth that might make masks optional.

It's only a personal opinion ... but I don't think we're anywhere near the point where removing masks in closed in spaces is anything close to a good idea.

Oh I do too, don't get me wrong ... I hate wearing masks, and will join you in burning all the cloth and paper masks that have gathered in a large pile by my front door.

It's just as a 65 year old man, I don't want to die from COVID-19, so I'll wear a mask until things actually "feel safe" to me

Provincial mask mandates have no bearing on my actually wearing mask is my only point.

True enough. I'd stop wearing mine today if I was allowed to do so.

U.S. FDA authorizes Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in children 5 to 11

BNT162b2 is pfizer

The study provides the largest peer-reviewed evaluation of the effectiveness of a third "booster" dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in a nationwide mass-vaccination setting. The study was conducted in Israel. It is published in The Lancet journal.

*snip*

This study suggests that a third vaccine dose is effective in reducing severe COVID-19-related outcomes compared to individuals who have received two vaccine doses at least 5 months ago. It is the first to estimate the effectiveness of a third dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine—BNT162b2 specifically—against severe outcomes with adjustment for various possible confounders, including comorbidities and behavioral factors. The study's large size also allows a more precise assessment of the vaccine's effectiveness across different time periods, different subpopulations (by sex, age and number of comorbidities), and different severe outcomes (which are rarer and thus require greater sample size). A recent clinical trial conducted by BioNTech included a smaller sample size and did not estimate the third-dose's effects for more severe outcomes.

*snip*

The results show that, compared with individuals who received only two doses five months prior, individuals who received three doses of the vaccine (7 days or more after the third dose) had 93% lower risk of COVID-19-related hospitalization, 92% lower risk of severe COVID-19 disease, and 81% lower risk of COVID-19-related death. Vaccine effectiveness was found to be similar for different sexes, age groups (ages 40-69 and 70+) and number of comorbidities.

The study also included a population-level analysis which found that infection rates began to drop for each age group 7-10 days after that age group became eligible for the third dose.

"These results show convincingly that the third dose of the vaccine is highly effective against severe COVID-19-related outcomes in different age groups and population subgroups, one week after the third dose. These data should facilitate informed policy decision-making," said Prof. Ran Balicer, senior author of the study, Director of the Clalit Research Institute and Chief Innovation Officer for Clalit.

study of the day

INDIANAPOLIS -- A nationwide study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are associated with significantly more immunity than a prior COVID-19 infection.

Researchers from the CDC’s VISION Network gathered data from more than 201,000 hospitalizations in nine different states. About 7,000 people in that group fit the criteria for this study. The research team analyzed the number of unvaccinated individuals who had a positive COVID-19 test more than three months before being hospitalized for the virus as well as the number of individuals who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and were not diagnosed with COVID prior to being admitted to the hospital. The research team found that overall, unvaccinated adults with a previous COVID-19 infection were about five times more likely to be hospitalized than those who were vaccinated.

“This data provides powerful evidence that vaccinations offer superior protection against COVID-19 than relying on natural immunity alone,” said Shaun Grannis, M.D., M.S., vice president for data and analytics at Regenstrief Institute and professor of family medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. “Many have been asking if they should get vaccinated if they’ve already been infected – this research shows the answer is yes.” Regenstrief contributes data and expertise to the VISION Network.

The data analysis also found among adults older than 65, overall mRNA vaccines were nearly 20 times more effective at preventing hospitalizations than prior infection alone.

SHANGHAI -- China's latest COVID-19 outbreak is developing rapidly, a health official said, as the authorities demanded high vigilance at ports of entry amid growing infections in a northeastern border city caused by the virus arriving from abroad.

Some 377 domestically transmitted cases with confirmed symptoms were reported from Oct. 17-29, National Health Commission (NHC) data showed. China has tackled a series of outbreaks this year since it largely contained a national spread in early 2020.

The numbers remain tiny compared with clusters outside the country. However, while the rest of the world works out how to co-exist with COVID-19, China has maintained its zero tolerance, urging vigilance around border areas and ports to prevent infected inbound travellers spreading the virus to locals.

"Within the past 14 days, 14 provincial areas have reported new locally transmitted cases or asymptomatic carriers," the NHC spokesperson Mi Feng said on Saturday.

"The outbreak is still developing rapidly, and the virus control situation is severe and complicated."

Defense companies are preparing to lay off thousands of employees, largely factory workers, who refuse to get the COVID-19 vaccine before the Dec. 8 deadline.

The CEOs of America’s largest defense companies this week warned these layoffs could delay weapon manufacturing. Some companies are already hiring new employees in anticipation of workers walking off the job or being fired because they refuse to comply with last month’s executive order that the employees of federal contractors be vaccinated.

“We are proactively increasing our hiring now in anticipation that we may have some loss of workers and we are ensuring that we have training and skill building programs in place once we bring those new employees into the workplace so they can get productive and efficient as quickly as possible,” Northrop Grumman CEO Kathy Warden said Thursday during the company’s quarterly earnings call.

Privately, many defense industry leaders praise the vaccine mandates, which they say help protect their important and vulnerable workforces. Some say they’re frustrated by workers who refuse to get vaccinated amid a pandemic that has killed nearly 750,000 in the United States and has cost the industry millions of dollars and the Pentagon billions.

“If you don’t like science, don’t work for a science company,” one industry source said.

https://www.defenseo...mandate/186490/

The woman identified herself as Melanie Rettler, a veterinarian.

“I’m a cloning expert with 35 years experience,” she declared. “And I was a consultant to the CDC. I’ve owned a pharmacy. I wanna tell you that this vaccine, this Covid vaccine is a deadly poison. That’s it. I’m just gonna tell you that. Everybody that takes it is damaging their immune system and they’re talking about this [being] given to children now. It’s going to destroy them. You need to do more research on it. I’m an expert on it, and I’m telling you that’s what it’s doing.”

She then mentioned “CRT” or critical race theory and claimed that “one race” owns every pharmaceutical company. Her remarks are quoted in full to convey their sheer insanity:

You know what? You wanna talk about racism? You wanna bring it in? Then let’s bring it in. Let’s get to the bottom of, the bottom of it. You’re talking about White supremacy, ok? Let’s get to the very bottom of it. Everyone one of these things, the deep state, the cabal, the swamp, the elite, you can’t mention it. But I will. There is one race that owns all the pharmaceutical companies, and these vaccines aren’t safe, they aren’t effective, and they aren’t free. You know that you’re paying for it through the increase in gas prices, the increase in food prices. You’re paying for this. And it’s being taken from your money and given to these pharmaceutical companies. And if you wanna bring race into this, it’s the Jews.”

Incredibly, Rettler actually received a smattering of applause.

In response, a school board member reminded attendees that “your comments need to be related to what the school board can do something about. And this was not something that we can do something about.”

Apparently, the school board is not in a position to fight back against the alleged Zionist cabal pushing deadly vaccines.

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said Saturday that Canada will donate millions more COVID-19 vaccine doses to a global vaccine-sharing initiative as rich countries scramble to send more shots to the developing world to help curb stubbornly high case counts.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rome, Freeland said Canada is boosting its existing commitment to COVAX, a vaccine distribution program co-ordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other groups, by some 73 million more shots to ensure COVID-19 vaccines are more readily available worldwide.

"We are standing up and doing our share — and that is absolutely the right thing to do," Freeland said. "Canada's commitment is very significant because of our size and given we don't have domestic capacity."

Saturday's announcement is in addition to the 127 million doses previously promised by Canada to COVAX.

For one of at least 22 intensive care patients moved to Ontario from Saskatchewan to alleviate COVID-19 pressure, the abrupt transfer was a brutal reminder of his traumatic past.

Ken Roth, 66, is a retired fire chief from La Loche, Sask., more than 500 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.

The unvaccinated man contracted COVID-19 in early July. He was intubated on July 28 and spent weeks in a coma.

Until recently, he was receiving care in the ICU at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon.

The Metis man says his wife and daughter had been visiting him at the hospital every day.

But in a flash that changed.

"The way they treated me in Saskatoon..." he said in an interview between bouts of coughing.

"They just came there and said 'you're leaving for Ottawa!'"

He attempted to protest, he said, but was moved so quickly that he didn't even have time to make a phone call to say good-bye. He cried on the plane ride to Ontario.

Roth said the experience was a a traumatic reminder of how he was ripped away from his mother at the age of six.

He was then sent to a residential school.

"Just like when I was a kid, they did the same thing. They just hurt me so much," he told CBC News.

Roth isn't upset that he was sent to Ontario to receive care — he's unhappy with how they moved him.

Roth is one of 22 people who, as of Friday morning, had been transferred to Ontario to ease the burden in Saskatchewan hospitals and protect standards of care.

World leaders gathered in Rome for the G20 Summit have concurred on the goal of having at least 70% of the population vaccinated against COVID-19 by 2022.

In order to achieve that objective, which is in line with the World Health Organization's (WHO) guidelines, drugs need to be distributed to less favored countries, it was agreed.

Economy and Health Ministers discussed the issue Friday and drafted an agreement whereby 40% of the world's population is to be immunized this year and 70% by 2022.

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi explained this wasa to achieve “flatly the objective of a true and equitable recovery” and was agreed by all the leaders gathered at the summit.

Members of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Medical Agency (EMA) choose to ignore the success of Russia's Sputnik V coronavirus vaccination. This was announced by the director of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Gamaleya Alexander Gintsburg.

“In the domestic regulation, a vaccine preparation is assessed, for example, by 18 parameters. And in Western European practice, 16 criteria are used, and two of them do not coincide with ours. This does not mean that the Russian or foreign system is bad. They are just different, ”said Gunzburg in an interview with“ Vechernaya Moskva ”.

He added that practically no Russian drug has been recognized by the European community. According to him, if domestic brands manage to break through to the world market, then they are reissued under the brands of European giants. In addition, the specialist believes that the recognition of the vaccine in Russia would go faster if it were used more often in practice by local doctors.

In New York City, where Grant lives, keeping a child from school—known as student absenteeism—is considered educational neglect and grounds for investigation. It’s also home to the largest public school system in the country. Grant knew that Black parents were on their own long before the pandemic started, but that sense of isolation was magnified by the lack of support and consistent direction from local government and public school officials when COVID-19 hit the U.S. As an early epicenter for the virus’s spread, the state had ample time to revise its COVID-19 mitigation strategies to support the needs of students and parents, but Grant said that schools aren’t keeping parents apprised with basic information, such as student infection rates. Parents have little choice but to make the best possible decision they can with the available data—and risk getting punished for it.

“I had a parent call me who decided to keep her child out of school because she had an underlying condition. So the school told her, ‘Well, we’re not going to send home [class] work because you should be sending your child into school,’” Grant said.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, mid-September—around the time that most public schools had started or were starting up again—saw an 8% increase in the number of children who contracted a COVID-19 infection. Children currently comprise over a quarter of all new infections. Black and Latinx children are more likely than white children to be hospitalized for a COVID-19 infection and Black children are the most likely to be admitted to intensive care units with life-threatening inflammation that results from infection. Unsurprisingly, 63% of parents agree that schools that do not require vaccination for students and staff should mandate mask usage, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.

However, even in a Democratic-run state resourced with vaccines and masks, Black parents are often put in the position of having to fight for their child’s safety in school while the definition of “safe” keeps changing. For many, there are no easy choices, and Grant said that many NYC Black parents are so scared of ACS [Administration for Children’s Services] that they’re willing to risk their child’s health by sending them to school instead of keeping them home.

“How messed up is that?” Grant said.

Two Pennsylvania police officers are facing criminal investigations after they were fired for submitting fake COVID-19 vaccination cards to their department.

The two officers in the city of Lancaster were busted after they openly discussed their fake vaccination cards at work, according to a report from Lancaster Online.

"Heather Schaeffer got a blank vaccination card from her cousin, who is in the military and involved in vaccination efforts, made a copy and sold it to Benjamin Lapp for $20," the site reports. "According to Schaeffer and Lapp's termination paperwork, Capt. Richard Mendez learned in September that the two 'had been openly speaking about having fraudulent COVID-19 vaccination cards.' Both admitted submitting the forged cards during a Sept. 22 interview with police officials, the paperwork said. Lapp also told the officials that Schaeffer had other fraudulent cards and was possibly selling them."

Lancaster doesn't require employees to be vaccinated, but those who've gotten the jab are allowed to go mask-less in city facilities, according to the report. The local district attorney's office has opened a criminal investigation into the two fired officers, but charges have not yet been filed.

DALLAS, Nov. 1, 2021 — Scientific research was sharply curtailed across the globe when the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020, restricting access to laboratories, shuttering core facilities and ceasing many clinical trials. Volunteer leaders and experts with the American Heart Association describe the ripple-effect of the pandemic on current and future cardiovascular and stroke research in a new American Heart Association Presidential Advisory, “Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Cardiovascular Science: Anticipating Problems and Potential Solutions,” published today in the Association’s flagship journal Circulation. Further, they urge targeted support for early career investigators, women and people from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in science; call for increased support and federal funding to ensure that the research enterprise can recover; and affirm the value of continued expansion of digital innovations that have changed and enhanced clinical trial design and conduct.

“Over the last 18 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve seen remarkable scientific successes in the face of tremendous challenge. However, research laboratories everywhere have faced daily impediments that began with laboratory shut downs, followed by the need to social distance, illness, supply chain limitations, and many other obstacles that have hit every phase and every type of research,” said Chair of the presidential advisory writing group Elizabeth M. McNally M.D., Ph.D., FAHA, chair of the Association’s Basic Cardiovascular Sciences Council and professor and director of the Center for Genetic Medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School Medicine in Chicago. “The pandemic has illustrated why science matters, and we must re-invest in the scientific infrastructure to rebuild science — so we are ready for the next challenges that come our way.”

Pandemic-related shelter-in-place orders in the U.S. and internationally resulted in nearly all research laboratories closing for several months in 2020. When laboratories re-opened, the return was far from normal operations with the need to work in limited shifts in order to reduce on-site personnel. Additionally, clinical studies and trials were halted to protect patient safety. Supply chains for research materials and equipment remain disrupted, and impediments to hiring research staff combined with modified or restricted training and education have hindered clinicians and scientists. Funding sources have not been available to address the costs required to re-establish research programs impacted by these challenges.

In the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, when so many lives have been lost to the virus, celebrating a “day of the dead” might seem strange, even tactless. But despite the morbid associations of its name, the Day of the Dead is actually a time to be reminded of the beauty of life, rather than just the inevitability of death.

Part of an important season for most Christians that begins at the end of October, the day sits within the celebration of Allhallowtide. This three-day period comprises All Hallows’ Eve on October 31, All Saints’ Day on November 1, and All Souls’ Day on November 2.

The last one is particularly important for Catholics and is an official holiday in their ecclesiastic calendar. Also known as the Commemoration of the Dearly Departed and the Day of the Dead, All Souls’ Day is generally a day of remembrance, when prayers are said for the souls of those who have passed on.

Around the world, All Souls often involves visiting cemeteries where loved ones are buried, and tending to their graves. Attending a mass or church service, praying and eating particular foods are all part of these observations.

Bangladesh on Monday began COVID-19 vaccination for schoolchildren aged 12 to 17 years in the capital Dhaka for the first time.

Education Minister Dipu Moni and Health Minister Zahid Maleque jointly inaugurated the campaign at a school in the business hub of Motijheel.

In the first phase, the immunization drive was launched simultaneously at eight school campuses.

Students and parents have expressed satisfaction over the move, hoping the campaign will ensure the health safety of millions of students in the country of nearly 170 million people.

Nearly 20 million people live in the capital Dhaka, making the megacity one of the most densely populated cities in the world.

“I feel safe after taking the first dose as every day I have to travel in crowded public transport,” Mohammad Sad, a student of Motijheel Ideal School and College, told Anadolu Agency.

Welcoming the drive, Lamia Anzum, another student, said more vaccination centers should be set up to cover all students. “I am happy now. But I want to see all students vaccinated within a short time and it should not be just as an experiment.”

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Mohammad Sogir Hossain, father of a student in capital Dhaka’s Jatrabari area, said the vaccination drive for all students across the country should be completed by December.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - European electronic COVID-19 vaccine certificates are put up for sale on the darknet, with an average price of $300, Russia's leading cybersecurity and anti-virus company Kaspersky Lab said on Monday.

"Kaspersky Lab has studied several shadow sites and found offers for the sale of electronic COVID-19 vaccine certificates of the European type. The document in the ads is offered for an average of $300," the company said in a statement.

Experts believe that the ads are mainly aimed at luring money from users, the statement said, adding that offers indicate payment is accepted in any cryptocurrency.

The certificates are offered both in English and Russian and users can choose the country of vaccination and the vaccine manufacturer— AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson or Moderna. The certificate is allegedly issued in one of the countries of Eastern Europe and may be verified using official applications such as CovPass, CovidCheck, Corona-Warn.

The country where the virus was first discovered officially had 92 new cases on Monday.

A person who visited the Disneyland theme park in Shanghai on Saturday tested positive for the virus after returning to a nearby region, Chinese state media report.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Sunday that she had tested positive for COVID-19, days after pulling out of the president's overseas trip due to a family emergency. Psaki is vaccinated, and said she is only experiencing mild symptoms.

Psaki said in a statement on Sunday that emergency was "members of my household testing positive for COVID-19."

"Since then, I have quarantined and tested negative (via PCR) for COVID on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday," Psaki said.  "However, today, I tested positive for COVID. While I have not had close contact in person with the president or senior members of the White House staff since Wednesday —  and tested negative for four days after that last contact — I am disclosing today's positive test out of an abundance of transparency. I last saw the president on Tuesday, when we sat outside more than six feet apart, and wore masks."

The Gestapo have laid out their terms for the BC Public Service.

...Beginning November 8, your supervisor or another designated excluded manager in your ministry can ask you to provide proof of vaccination using your BC Vaccine Card. You must provide that by November 22. Only information required under the policy will be collected, and it will not be shared other than as required to fulfill the requirements of the policy. The policy applies to any employee working for the BC Public Service, whether they work onsite in a public service workplace or remotely. An employee who is unvaccinated on November 22 will be placed on unpaid leave for three months. After three months of being placed on leave without pay, employees who have not become at least partially vaccinated may be terminated...

For crying out loud.  How did we go from 'we need them to come up with a vaccine so we can get back to normal' to so many people protesting it?
