she’s a radical from the north park association.

.. I remember her from the court house tent city days... a pro-poverty industry activist to the core.

She must be excited by the encampments in Central Park then.

Because travelling all the way to the existing pool wears her out?

That’s a start! Just saw a B.C. liberals ad pledging to get rid of tent cities! 🤞

who would vote for such a disorganized party?  they have had years to get ready.

B.C.’s Green Party vetted 74 candidates in less than two weeks, but will not have enough for all 87 ridings after nominations closed Friday.

“We did not have the head start that the NDP had,” said B.C. Green Party Leader Sonia Furstenau. “We did not have even the head start that the B.C. Liberal party had.”

If we on this forum knew something was up as early as August 11, given the date of the first post, are the Greens really claiming they had no idea?

Or maybe they were so engrossed with their leadership race that they failed to pick up on what the whole province knew?

Pretty disappointing the Greens didn't have a "go to" list at the ready - after all, once the writ is dropped the campaign has started and being out of the gate early gives an advantage.  As does a living "platform" document - something that lives during the periods between elections and is always "near ready" should an election be called.  My riding - Victoria Beacon Hill, really has only one viable candidate if a person wants to see things done differently on the homeless/addictions camping in parks end: Karen Bill.  Lore and Neilson are just more of what we've got around council table and Reichert as an independent fails for many reasons (any person who would falsely claim a business was closed as a form of protest does not merit election to office).

Also, people would be well served to remember this is the 2020 election not the 2017 election.  So voting based on what the last Liberal government did or didn't do, really doesn't hold water.  Vote based on what the NDP have done or nor done and what the competing platforms of this election are.

Businesses and non-profits have staffing succession plans in place at all times, so the statement that the Greens had only 2 weeks to prepare really indicates that they don't know the basics of running an organization let alone a province.  They have had years and failed.

it's downright embarrassing for them.  it would be different if they were a party with no current seats and we had a majority government.

but the fact that they are "unprepared" means they never had any serious idea of taking down the current government either.  which they should have been ready to do at any time.

British Columbia Green party Leader Sonia Furstenau says the most successful result for the Oct. 24 provincial election would be another minority government.

Sonia Furstenau said Saturday that no single party should have absolute power in the legislature because it would be unaccountable for the next four years.

oh you don't say eh?  i hope the greens are wiped right back off the map.

The Eco-Socialists didn't manage to run a single candidate! Perhaps it's because so many of their candidates, like Jenn Neilson, bolted to the Greens.

Ultimately I opted not to run for the BC Conservatives in Oak Bay-Gordon Head: I realized that on such short notice, it would simply be impossible to run a viable campaign and be more than just a paper candidate, and the people of OBGH deserve better than that. Good on the BCCP for organizing 19 candidates though, I hope to see one or two of them elected, though I know that's unlikely.

My only hope for this election is that good people who are competent representatives from all parties are elected: people like Andy Mackinnon in Esquimalt-Metchosin, Katrine Conroy in Kootenay West, and Sam Sullivan in Vancouver-False Creek (just to be multi-partisan). I'll now have to decide who to vote for in my own riding.

Is there any real difference between a formally named eco-socialist and a green party candidate?

Under Weaver the Greens were a little to the right of the NDP, now they’ve swung to the far left of the NDP - who in practice have moved to be a centrist party under Horgan.

Socialists and a mixed bag of far left extremists have been unable to penetrate the NDP under Horgan, so they’ve moved to take over the Green Party who were clearly desperate for candidates, do not have a clear vision, and have opened themselves to be taken over and have that vision defined for them. Clearly something to be said for party discipline at occasional interference at the local level to avoid radical candidates. Some similarities to the Socred take over of the Liberal party as they needed a ready made political vehicle vs. starting from scratch.

Not sure some of the NDP candidates seem pretty left this election and federally, we've seen Jagmeet Singh post praising Fidel Castro.  Horgan may be a centrist, but so is Wilkinson the only advantage I see NDP having is that the Greens are willing to work with them, but may not be willing to work with the Liberals, so even in a minority situation, it's still an NDP government.

And by saying that, Furstenau sealed her party’s fate. What were protest votes from Liberal voters in 2017 will not be wasted this time around.

The Greens were unprepared for an election, I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they genuinely didn’t think Horgan would pull the drawstring so quickly after their leadership race, but the alienation of would-be voters from the Liberal side of the equation is fully on them.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the NDP swing to the left again after Horgan leaves, time will tell. As for Singh federally, I think it’s a cautious relationship going both ways - Singh is not on board with BC’s energy development plans, but careful not to criticize too much and Horgan doesn’t want to get tied to the more radical and occasionally poorly thought out policies and plans from the federal NDP. Horgan has had an unexpectedly close and friendly relationship with the federal Liberals, and Trudeau in particular. I guess when politicians both need one another they can play nice.
