This new topic is a place to put new information, or alerts about new-found viruses and new information.

If one listed here turns into another pandemic that virus can have its own thread.

World’s first case of human infection with H5N8 bird flu reported in Russia

"Russia reported the case of human infection to the WHO “several days ago, just as we became absolutely certain of our results,” Popova said on Rossiya 24 state TV. There was no sign yet of transmission between humans, she added."

'Siberia’s Vector Institute said on Saturday it would start developing human tests and a vaccine against H5N8, RIA news agency reported.'

P.e.r.m.a.n.e.n.t lockdown. Variants, bird flu, pig flu doesn't matter why it will never end.

You would think floating on a big ball of dirt in the middle of nowhere would be less complicated.

While COVID-19 has been terrible we've been lucky that there have been far and few viruses of this nature between the last pandemic and our current one.

Being prepared is smart and the very best investment.  One only has to look to the price we all paid in being unprepared, in lives lost and the economy of the current pandemic.

Hoping as many years pass before the next is foolish.

Conservative gov. shut down aspects of Canada's first defense against pandemics a few years back and the Liberal gov. is in the process of rebuilding what the Cons tore apart.

I'm certain many here do not subscribe to conspiracy and keeping abreast of world virus activity is worthy of a moment of everyone's time.  If you are not one who wishes to devote time I suggest you simply change the channel.

oh we are prepared.  but humans be humans.  we choose how to react (or not) and it's going to be different every time and different for different people.

the absolute FACT is we could bring cases to near zero with a 14-day absolute detention.  but everybody wants their own exception.

if this pandemic killed more kids or young adults we would have reacted very differently.

That's a hell of a rebuilding effort if it takes 6 years.

They ship them off to “war” and stuff 18 year olds don’t usually have children the 1918 flu killed the young things aren’t looking that different from 1918.

I take it back he seems much more hard-core than me in light of recent information.

I was just trying to point out that he might not be the person controlling the world.

Hopefully that’s still the case. Sometimes I like to use humour to try and make it emotionally easier for people to digest doesn’t work for everyone. Why did Bill cross the road? To close the gate!

Ottawa plans to temporarily require people flying from China, Hong Kong and Macao to test negative for COVID-19 before leaving for Canada, beginning in early January.     :whyme:

The decision by Canada and a growing list of countries to impose new COVID-19 restrictions on travellers from China isn’t going to reduce spread of the virus, according to experts who say the move appears designed to put pressure on Chinese officials to be more transparent.

On Saturday, the federal government announced that as of Jan. 5, all travellers two and older arriving in Canada from China, Hong Kong and Macao will need to provide a negative COVID test taken no more than two days before departure. Several other countries, including the U.S., France and India, have adopted similar measures in recent days as cases in China soar and the government continues to restrict the release of information about the new wave.
