The scientist with the hypothesis that babies aren’t racist never got funded….

Quite the contrary. Western society is ideologically invested in the idea that humans are fundamentally accepting of all races, that we aren’t flawed even as babies, and that “learned racism” is the only thing standing in the way of successful multiculturalism. That propaganda is the reason you believe what you do about this, despite overwhelming bioevolutionary & psychological evidence showing the opposite is true.

Nobody wants to believe babies are born racist, but they are.

The linked study doesn’t say babies are born racist. It says they learn racial bias from their environment and who they are exposed to.

It further suggests that any racial bias can be diminished with broader exposure to different races as young infants.

Perhaps this is why it’s important to have diverse representation in high profile jobs and in media representation.

The evidence really is overwhelming. All babies notice and express in-group preferences- in every study. Unless, as m3m (and i previously) pointed out - they are accustomed to a multi-racial environment.

Yes, it’s hard to swallow because it goes against the ideology of believing humans are inherently good. But it’s still true - if you grow up without being exposed to people of other races, you’ll be weary of them, unless you’re taught otherwise.

Sure it is. If babies were born racist then I would have had to be teaching them the opposite. My youngest isn’t even aware of the concept.

I disagree with a lot of experts on a lot of things . As for babies a whole lot of them are scared of anyone who isn’t their immediate family regardless of colour sex or race .

That's exactly right. It's not that they are racist but that they learn to trust what they are used to. Completely normal human behavior; not racism.

At the age of six, when I moved to Canada, my first friend was an Iraqi boy, who would greet me by placing his palms on my face, as was their custom.

In my ESL class, we had the entire world represented, it felt like. I can’t remember what my emotions were when I first met my classmates. I feel like something jarring or emotional, I’d have remembered.

As a kid you’re more curious and trusting of a lot of things and people. I think my earliest emotions were over how funny it was none of us could speak the same language. I don’t think the concept of race or ethnicity was formed yet, but we all knew we had come to Canada from somewhere far away.
